Would you sign Cutler?
« on: October 13, 2006, 08:58:42 PM »
If you owned a product/supplement company would you sign Cutler to endorse your product/company and why? If not, who would you sign and why?

Then a few posts from now is where you drop some huge bombshell of insider info that has zero truth and make bold predictions that never happen?

He's got a lot of size. You can't train for shape, to have better lines, or any of that. But size is more tangible. Nobody wants to be freakishly ripped, and veins can be a turnoff.

Are you looking for some "inside" info? No bombshells here just a straight up question.

Without question. Jay's agent/management should have him hooked up with all sorts of mainstream companies by now.

No I wouldn't.  He's not attractive nor is he marketable enough to move anything except to the hardcore bodybuilding audience.

Nothing has changed with him as Mr. Olympia.

Ummm Are you kidding me?

No mainstream company is going to touch Jay.  He isn't sexy enough to sell anything to the mainstream.  In fact the only people he could sell to are harcore Bodybuilding fans and horny old grandmas.

His physique is that of a refrigerator.  I was at a show where he guest posed, and many of the non bodybuilding audience were thouroughly disgusted by his look.

He also lacks charisma and charm (just like Ronnie)

Again if Bodybuilding was going in a different direction....He is just not it.

Bodybuilders and fans of bodybuilding buy stereos, cars, sunglasses, use credit cards...the list goes on and on

Please put some more info to your post why you believe he 'only' has hardcore marketing potential

What do you consider mainstream and how would you use him outside of the BB market? You cannot place Cutler for example in a Costco or Walmart for a signing. Outside the BBmarket Cutler is useless.

The mass market is not attracted to the freak show. At some point ESPN was a strong sponsor in BB but they pulled once they were bought by Disney. TLC shows BB but from a circus point of view. Why do you think they keep showing Valentino titled "The man with the expoding arms". BB is like a scary movie to the mass market they have no interest but want to take a few "looks" out of curiosity.

I don't know about that . . . word on the street is that Procter & Gamble (Crest) and Colgate-Palmolive are currently in a bidding war with each other as both companies are trying desperately to sign Jay to a lucrative toothpaste endorsement deal (since they are keenly aware that Jay likes to brush his teeth a lot.)

Bodybuilding fans are only a small segment of the population.  How many folks can I reach at one of your events?  Not that many.  If you're looking to market only to bodybuilders...cool.  But if you're looking for mainstream marketing...not gonna happen.

Not only that bodybuilding can't even get CABLE coverage anymore.  That's where the bread and butter of advertising is...television.  The Olympia was the other weekend, and I heard nothing about it on any television station.

Jay does not have what it takes to relate to the non bodybuilding fan.  As I said before, when he guest posed at the local show...the only folks creaming their pants were hardcore muscleheads and horny old grandmas.  They seem to like him.  That's jsut his physique.

You need sex appeal and charisma to really cater to the mainstream crowd. If bodybuilding wants to get some of the steam it had when Arnold was on top, then they will need to find that charismatic, sexy, and smart individual to represent them.

Ok then, lets do this.

Any pro bodybuilders want a 'mainstream' sponsor?

Then that money needs to be put back into the sport.  Paying attention to detail and really working on professionalism will really make a big difference.

Notice the Arnold and how professional that show is.

Ok so if not Jay, who would you sign, who do you think would have the most appeal to the mainstream or mass of the population?

I personally think Phil Heath has the most potential right now, but I would really look into Lee Priest and Shawn Ray maybe a couple years back for various reasons

Pretty big gay for pay market outside of the BBmarket.  Magazines would suck Cutler up for photo shoots and modeling if he were willing. I am not saying hide the salami or pull the salami here, though it is a highly paid trade if he were to enter it.

So yes outside of BB there is a market just a matter of yes or no to enter it.

The drugs in the sport hold it back from the mainstream. Nobody wants to sponser a drug user.

w/o a doubt

he should be the #1 person sought out right now for a supp contract.  Manufactures should be trying to get him to sign & leave the company he's currently with.

YES! He's reliable, smart, motivated. He'd be extremely valuable. No one negative thing bout the guy.
