Yeh the weak connection to Jay's wife in no way redeemed it to newsworthy.

Laws against marijuana are nothing more than stupid right-wing ideals. They have everything to do with enforcing on what these assholes think is right and very little to do with protecting people. People don't need to be protected from marijuana, anyone who's got experience with marijuana know's it safer than alcohol.

Drug laws keep prisons filled with low grade subjects who don't contribute much to taxes.

And prisons are big business for some companies.  You'd be surprised which ones ;)

Well anti-drug laws allow certain government law enforcement to exist and be relevant. If stuff like marijuana were made legal then many would lose their jobs and prison population would decrease. It's safe to say these law exist so these guys can get their meal ticket by busting some kid for smoking a joint.

Many economists, like Milton Friedman have called for the decriminalization of marijuana. Infact, my economics professor told me the same thing you mentioned in your post.

yeah, i haven't studied it much, and algebra and others are going to piss their panties, but...

the thinking goes that the CIA uses drug money (that is in the laundering process) to float Wall street.  both sides use credit, and the time that drug money being spend is "liquid interest".  We could talk about this on a new thread, but it's very real and very well studied.  it's real and it's probably necessary for our economy to function as is.

Well, the variable selective enforcement of drug laws allows the nation to 1) make $ selling prison contracts to big corps, and 2) reduce the % of Americans who pay no taxes.  We need some drug dealers- but when there are too many, laws are passed/enforced to lower the number to optimum, and when they aren't enough, they will let more dope thru the borders and create an overpop issue to get more soldiers on the street.

When a prison is about to break ground, they'll do a stastical analysis of the area and enforcement of laws will increase in order to have the flow of inmates they need to 1) fill that prison, and 2) justify a budget for a second one to break ground the minute this one opens.  it's supply and demand.  human fodder for the prison machine.

You can't pity the dealers much- they know they're breaking the law.  Just cool to observe!
