In 99, that was when Flex went desperate, and started with that shit, 98 I believe he was still anti-Syn, and I believe he didn't know what it was back in 97-98, Remember the only pro to have that at that time was Ernie Taylor. Ronnie was a lot bigger, but as ND said, it was almost a toss up between Flex and Ronnie in 98. Flex had the shape, the lines, Ronnie came in unbelieveablly shredded, and still had shape, he was also as confident as ever.

Actually both were what a Mr. O, should be, but Flex couldn't get any bigger (which is the trend for MR. O's), but Ronnie could, so I believe Ronnie made the better Mr. O.

I was not a huge fan of the Ronnie of recent years or Dorian once his injuries and gut started to ruin him but to me Jay as Mr. O is worse.  His waist/abs is/are pathetic.  To me, bodybuilding is about adding mass all over while maintaining a waist close to what you were born with (in shape).  Obviously you will put on some size there but noone with a waist that big should ever be Mr. O.  It simply says who gives a crap about your huge waist or gut if you simply put more size on your back/delts it doesn't matter.  That leads to alot of the crazy synthetic use of the Ruhls, Branchs, etc.

BTW Jay would kill for that midesction of Dorian's from the 1995 pic!

Jay didn't even deserve the Arnold wins over Chris Cormier, but he got them. It seem that when one wins the  Olympias when the champ is not at his best, tends not to be the best of the field, only the luckiest.

Cutler is the worst ever. I try for life of me to have an open mind, but I just don't see what's so special about him. He's just a big stocky white dude all blown up on steroids. Mr. Olympia should  have an unnattainable, out of this world physique. Anyone with halfway decent genetics can look like Cutler.

I just can't imagine that someone with as thick waisted and wide hipped as Cutler can be named Mr Olympia. It's a joke and I officially refuse to acknowledge Jay Cutler as Mr Olympia. He should be impeached.

i could not agree more.  i have said this jay started competing.  HE DOES NOT HAVE A PHYSIQUE WORTHY OF A MR. OLYMPIA.  i will ask the same question: what about jay cutler is soooo great??

Bodybuilding magazines have always given top amateurs lots of pub (Craig Titus, Dennis Newman, Paul DeMayo). Was color a factor? Consider that when Toney Freeman won the Nationals in 2002, I don't think he made a single cover.

It took Gunter a while to bring it to the table. He's been a pro since '93 but his breakout year didn't come until nearly a decade later.

Some pros come out and take the IFBB by storm (Kevin Levrone, Flex Wheeler, Mike Francois, Phil Heath). Others need a while to get it going. It took pros like Lee Priest and Darrem Charles a decade just to win their first pro show. Cook has only been a pro for 2 years. To me, he has the tools. A bit more time and patience and he'll be in there.

Crowning Victor would have meant the sport was at least TRYING to go in a different direction and regain credibility.  With Jay's win it was just like Well he came in 2nd four times...it's his turn.
