if anyone thinks this war was actually about WMD's and helping iraqis they are a fool. the us built permanent bases over there for a reason, the US isnt going anywhere but other countries in the region. the us hasnt, never planned on and wont bring democracy, the us is bringing walmart.

all the way to the indian ocean, the american bases follow the same path as the new oil pipeline which will be coming.

LOL @ the people who believe there isn't going to be an oil pipeline thru that region in ten years, controlled by puppet regimes and managed by US' Unocal. hahahahahaha moster denial :)

imo oil is a manifestation of the real issue here, which is the future of america(and the world at large). the us needs to secure resources to

a) maintain its oil dependant way of life through the transition to cellulose technology(my guess as the heir apparent, not fact)

b) mitigate the growth of china

iran, iraq and north korea seem more like smokescreens than threats to me, the real threat is 1.25 billion chinamen who decide its their time to shine.

we don't need the oil, and technology will likely create something to obsolence oil before we run out.  We want to control the oil to ensure that economies in the region don't grow from it, and to ensure we can influence politics in the region.

c) Keep the dollar in play in the middle east.  SA, Iran both dropped us in 2002-2003 for the Euro and Iraq was about to also.  Anyone wanna guess if they're using the dollar or the Euro to pay US oil corps in Iraq? ;)

I don't really need to elaborate.  It's glaringly obvious that this guy has no idea about military theory or strategy, nor of the capabilities of our military.

I'm on the ground in Baghdad smelling the burning trash every day.

Debating this would be like trying to explain to my dog why he shouldn't eat poop.

So double or triple the amount of troops there wouldn't make any difference?

Rumsfeld said that more troops will do nothing but give them more targets.

Well, understanding Rumsfield is the idiot who decided we needed less troops i don;t know i much trust his assessment of the current situation.  I would however be interested to know what the soldiers, and commanders in Iraq think.

Reference my other message about tailoring troop levels to the strategy used.

Roughly speaking, "less troop x less restraint = more troops x more restraint".
