WOMEN HOGGING MY CHIN UP WALL! LOL
« on: October 24, 2006, 12:32:47 AM »
Ok, so there's a chin up bar right by a wall, which is often used for women to do their ball squats. I once had a woman ask me how much I have to go for chins because she needed to "squat." I don't watch, but I don't see them there for long, apart from doing maybe a few sets of 12 at bodyweight. How can that help anyone, even a woman, improve quad strength? It's fashionable as hell, but seems pointless if you're only using bodyweight for a few sets of 12.

They are squating on a ball from the chin-up bar?

I have so much respect for the trainer that taught them that.  ::)

and keep moving!

No they use the wall for ball squats. The chin up bar is attached to the wall, so it can get in the way sometimes. I don't like waiting too long for my sets and I just find this ball squat pointless. Just an excuse for women to pretend to workout, much like the thigh adducter.

as a law enforcement agent my advice is find the root of your problem(the stupid personal trainer)and beat him like he owes you money and then tell everyone he injured himself doing those gay-ass ball squats and nobody will ever do them again

no need to thank me for my advice its what i am here for ;D

Okay, From a PT perspective.  Ball squats are for beginners.  Teaches proper form and range of motion.

If you are going to 90 degress, soft knees when you come up and squeezing the glutes, it is an effective workout for beginners.

Add weights when it becomes easier.  Once you are comfortable in your form, you can begin using smith machine squats.  The progession in squats are ball, smith, free weights.

How many times have there been topics of 1 inch range of motion on squats or horrible form?
No one who is new at working out knows how to squat properly.  When you do it right, you don't need a lifting belt.  Your abs and back are your support.

squatting on a ball is one of the coolest ways to train stability if you are an elite athlete, otherwise its just an extravagant way to get injured.

not true..if you wanna learn to squat...squat and work on technique...: advanced balancing exercises should be used mostly for sport specific  (elite) training.

I would not train a client squat with weight if they have no idea how to keep their back/knee in proper alignment.

Not all people can use the same learning curve as others.  If I instruct a person to keep thier knees from drifting too far forward, they can hear me but not physically do it.  If I put a stability ball behind the and adjust their stance that works for some people.

Many people on this board think it's easy/natural to squat because you do it so often.  I am amazed at how many people can't properly squat.  Like Sandra said, s/b squats are a great way to teach a beginner how to squat.  One learns to bend at their hips and knees.  I think it builds confidence primarily, because many are afraid of getting their butts down.  You shouldn't do them forever though.  Progress to "real" squats eventually.  BTW, the s/b is behind you on your lower back.  One is not on top of the ball squatting.

But they HAVE to ball squat on THAT wall or they'll die.

Next time you see those women, recommend they do squats with forced reps to absolute failure.

most of the women in the gym just waste the fresh air and camp on the equimpent. its alwayings annoying coming to some machine seeing some bored chick do her 2 and half reps with the bar and go "do some cardio"

besides that you also have the cardio doers who go to every possible spinning class and do cardio every damn time you seem them and shit have love handles all over them, i mean srsly just stop eating shit and get your diet together and you dont even have to do cardio to get rid of the fat

wait till she gets on the ball then kick it out from underneath her. as shes crashing to the ground throw back your head and ROOOOOAAAARRR and SCREAM something along the lines of -'listen up you dumb bitches!!! no more using your ball bullshit underneath the goddam pullup bar!' as your finishing punt a nearby woman in the chin just to drive home your point.

come on, not everyone can be a local amateur wannabe bodybuilder. The tough guy in the gym who leaves in some beat up car. or if they have a car, it's all they've got. Losers.

Most women who are out of shape need to squat their own bodyweight before they can even think of doing real squats.

That ball is their life.  :-X

If you really wanted that bar you should have told those bitches to move out, but then you'd probably gotten banned from the gym.

It's really a no-win situation.....  :(

Some good points from both "sides" here. I see why some women may be too weak to use any weights on the ball squat at first, but do you ever see them using the smith squat or BB squat? No, because they fear they may break a nail or become muscle-bound. If you learn the proper squatting form, at least learn it for a reason.

What's wrong with the other three walls? Can't they do them elsewhere?
