Apart from the obvious things like hygene, body odor can be determined by diet which is often culturally determined.  But is there something inherent genetically that produces a certain odor? I doubt it.

I've noticed that Asians have no body odor.
 
And I do think culture and diet dertermine body odor. This one old indian guy in my gym smells like a spice tray.
