That's a part of SpecialEd's humor and wit. he threw in aan ACTUAL and REAL legit fact that melvin did go to beauty school and is a licensed manicurist...he put it in the middle to blend in with the other 'tounge in cheek' observations as a joke like the others but this one is really true.

Kind of like in 'Meet The Parent's when Greg Focker constantly get's shit for being a nurse.
