LCD or Plasma televisions
« on: November 01, 2006, 07:03:50 AM »
I'm about to upgrade from a 'basic' 26 inch ordinary TV in preparation for the digital takeover [not sure if this has happened in the colonies yet]. I'm going to splash out on a 42 incher, but can't decide whether to go plasma or LCD. Which one will last the longest? Which is best suited for xboxing? I keep on getting conflicting reports. LCDs seem a bit more expensive. Any thoughts?

LCD's are better. No burn in etc.

Try and get one with 1080p support (gonna set you back £££, great for HD content tho!).

My best piece of advice would be to research the reviews of LCD tv's online, CNet, ZDNet etc, make sure you spend that little bit extra cash for a superior product, otherwise you will be kicking yourself.

Indeed, my mate has a awesome setup on a 1080p LCD TV, with the latest update for the 360 it enables 1080p output support... and destroying the cunt on PES 6 is all the sweeter! :P

Yep, my research seems to suggest that LCD's are better. In the States, they are also cheaper. Plasmas claim to fame seems to be better "blacks" , but I find most people like a clear bright picture better. My friend just got the Sony Bravia 40inch, and the picture is amazing, but you don't have to spend that much to get an almost as good picture. Coming from the set you have now, you are going to be amazed at the difference.

Seen a 32 inch LCD HD TV by Acoustuc Slutions for £499, reduced from £650.
It has 1366 x 768 pixels with a contrast ratio of 1000:1. This is gibberish to me - anyone know if its a good one?

1080x (the best HDTV res) is 1920 x 1080

1366 x 768 is just above 720x standards.

This is decent if you have the dinero.

These also support 1080x, the max resultion HDTV can currently provide:
