I say most need better ventilation, I mean think about it nasty smells mixed with moist air from people taking showers and sweaty guys can make one nasty smelling locker room.

the answer to this is to leave and find another gym, i can't stand people who complain and do nothing, there are 4 Gold's that are part of my membership and the one i was going to changed to a less hardcore atmosphere and i just left and went to another one.

lol.....and usually I barely see anybody with decent muscle on those gyms. i was at a golds gym in florida, and the free weight room was upstairs. so when you drop dumbells, it resonate the entire second floor. so there was a reason, I believe why management did not want anybody to drop those dumbells, but due to many complaints from the hardcore guys, management had to relocate the free weight room downstairs. last time I was in Orlando, all the big dumbells were relocate where you can drop em at will. they had up to 180pounders

Yea, there is a Planet Fitness near me.  I went in to look around.  This Planet Fitness actually has a siren with flashing lights that they press is you make noise or clang the weights.  Go F yourself.  DB’s only went to 80 lbs, so that was a sign to me already.

i had a one year contract with golds. half way through they were bought out by planet fitness. they took out all of the good equipment, and the db's only went to 60. they told me i could cancell my membership, so i did with the guy there. 2 years later they send me a letter saying i owe them over 2 grand, for never paying my fees. luckily my lawyer got me out of it.

 I know gyms like this. They aren't gyms they are 'health spas' and they DO NOT allow serious trainers to apply.

 Why don't all of you who complain about it...do what TheBlockHead did. Get a trusted partner and a few investors and get a loan and find a spot and git r done!

 I did it with only 3k of my own money. Full of old school first generation Nautilus, a few Hammer pieces, dumbbels to 160lbs and ONLY 5 cardio pieces in the entire place. Chalk is welcome and so is hard training. I contend one of the better bodybuilding g-y-m-s in the city.

 A couple Getbiggers here been to it. In about 2 weeks one of the biggest and brightest personalities of Getbig will make an appearence there while in town.

Sweet!  Do you guys have a website, so that you can advertise your gym, show off equipment, share maps, post hours, answer Qs with a nice FAQ, advertise specials, earn money from affiliate sales, collect info from potentially interested customers, and more?

I've seen the so-called 'rules' posted at a Planet Fitness and I gotta say that these rules along with the gym itself is a total joke. Period. 

They've sent me an invitation via mailbox to join for only $10/month. Yeah, that's a nice price and all but no way would I ever workout in that joke-of-a-gym! I'll stick to my Gold's Gym, thanks.

 Damn, Rob you are ON THAT SIHT!!!! Always hustlin, huh? Hahahaha!

 It's funny because I figure I would ask you about this one day but it was kicked around with my guy...we were debating it. The thing is...there is only 90 members right now and we don't want more than 150-200. It's because we give all members their own key to the place and we DO have a right to refuse membership and we try to keep it on the DL.

 We thought about a website so people can pay dues that way instead of giving us cash, they sign a waiver and a few forms and they get a key. Some of them ask to pay monthly and we don't have a system in place to handle that PLUS...we're thinking about selling merch like hats, varsity jackets, t-shirts blah blah blah and we can't put a store in the gym because we have no room and no employee or attendent. NOT TO MENTION...I was thinking about cross selling supps and like I said...it has to be a place where members can view online. Sure beats leaving flyers and loose-leaf papers on the bulletin board or on the locker room bench.

 I got ya, 240...you're my web guy. I also have a national level figure girl who trains there who is still almost done with photo stuff and wants to launch a website...as soon as she tells me she is ready...a PM goes out to you. Holla!

The idea of a siren in the gym should be a turn-off to anyone though.

 Very true. I anticipated that so thats why it's a MEMBERS ONLY kind of joint and we screen people and encourgae serious trainers only. We don't advertise, there is no phone there we don't even have a window or sign outside. The profit we make after rent, utility bills, repair etc for the year is very little. It's more of a hobby thing to us and we did a good job. We both have real jobs...that's just our side thing. If it were to close down tomorrow our biggest headache would be where to store the equipment...thats it.

 Just over 90 members at $200/year. You do the math. Funny thing is...out of 90+ members...only 10-15 people use it on a regular basis. That's fine though. The rest come in 3-5 times a month if that and of course...Jan-Early Feb, then again the 2nd weekend of March for two more weeks then you never see them. hahahaha...they still pay, though.

 Every year I may loose about 10 members who don't renew...sometimes more but every year I sign up the same amount so it balances out. We already made our money back as far as what we put into it to make it happen. It's cool...I don't mind. I like knowing I have my own facility to train at and can do whatever I want...do PTing for extra scratch, control the music and there is something neat about chilling in the back office of your own gym with other meathed friends talkin shop and bb politics. 

 A big major corporate gym is opening up about 3 miles north. That's fine...we might lose a handful but so what? I'm a member of that chain anyway and I'll go there from time to time like I do now and inflitrate the meathed crowd and become 'the hookup' and get them to join mine...BB's should have multiple gym memberships anyway.
