Well, it's finally over. It's really funny how 20 weeks of training and dieting can go by so quickly. I can hardly believe it's done.
I was thrilled to death to have won my first Open weight class, not to mention a little shocked! I guess we all see ourselves a little differently than we are. I thought that i was in pretty good condition, but didn't really realize how I looked against the other competitors until I saw the photos. In the overall, I just knew that I was getting crushed! As it turned out, I didn't look THAT bad! I looked like I belonged, and that made me very happy.
The other competitors were all cool, and everyone was very helpful to each other backstage. The event was well-run and the guest poser (Branch) was a huge hit with the crowd. He is a really nice guy and was very gracious backstage, taking time to talk to any competitors that wanted some of his time.
I met TA for the first time. This guy is funny as hell, and Jez is a real sweetheart. The interviews were fun and the other guys thought it was nice to have something different backstage. We're used to a bunch of hollow-faced zombies walking around in a trance...instead, we got a bunch of hollow-faced zombies laughing, eating donuts and (in my case) trying to make a few lucid, witty commments for the camera.
Thanks to everyone that gave support and well-wishes, Quincy Roberts for putting on a great show and Adonis for making the Finals a lot of fun.
My last, most important thank-you goes to my training partner. She placed 2nd in Women's Middleweight BBing and 3rd in Figure B class. It was her first competition, and I am so proud of her! She has been a great training partner, motivator and she also happens to be my best friend in this world. I can safely say that without her support, I would not have fared nearly as well. Thanks Kat, you are THE BEST.
And now it's off to breakfast, work and training. Gotta take advantage of this rebound and start the countdown to Bodyrock '08.
