Good for Arnold, he's an incredible person.
California has been a ridiculously hard state for governors and politicians.  So many diverse people with different ideas.
Among of his abilities to succeed are his charisma and his moderate political stance.  A hard line republican would not do well in California.

He proved that by being hard-line last year. Embarassed into regaining some humility, he reverted back to the middle where he always was anyway, then had the good fortune of budget  surpluses from a recovering economy coupled with the benefits of facing yet another political stiff to run against. ;)
