a lot of little guys have one habit.
And they hide away when they pose.
When they do an arm pose, they do like this.
The big guy will come right out
with his arm.
Never do that, never hide away.
Like right now, you did like this.
You know, show them.
Show them the whole thing.
Make the move, open up the whole body.

you are so right. unfortunately the era of great posing has gone a long time ago. let me modify your question a bit: when was the last time you saw a guy actually posing for 3-4 minutes without interrupting for walking around, crowd waving, macho behaviour etc. . there are a few out there today, but in makkawys era it seemed everyone was a great or at least decent poser.

overall just better choices of music, more creative poses and carrying themselves with much more dignity, acting like a man onstage and not like some insecure teenagers hiding behind their big muscles...

of course there are great posers today, but to me its an overall trend that posing has gone down the drain..

it used to be an integral part of bb...now when we see a good poser we're like whoaaa!...most excellent posers nowadays do variations on one theme...vince, melvin, charles...

I had no idea Makkaway was such a good poser. The posing was flawless. His motion was fluid and his balance was superb. But I don't like his style all that much. I don't like the constant opening and closing of his hands. And constant extending and contracting of his biceps. That was too repetitive.

Here's another one with the same song, but slightly different routine and he does not do what you mentioned. He is also bigger and harder this time although I can't recall the year. I wish I could find his 84 Mr Olympia routine. I was there and I have never seen an audience so entranced to the point of not uttering a word for 5 minutes staright at a bodybuilding show. If I remember correctly he got a standing ovation at the end.

I didn't watch the vid, but I think posing is very underrated. I like to think of it as important as anything you do onstage. There've been some really great posers over the years.

About Labrada, I saw his 1993 O. routine and wow, awesome! Another Arnie quote (never get enough)

"Now that's... that's what I call posing!" :)

Pretty damn good posing, and such seems to have been lost on the next generation. My only real negative criticism would be that is really only upper body posing; legs were hardly emphasized (and, maybe for good reason).

The 84 makkaway is the best...very powerful.  I love this style of posing and always wanted them to allow more time to get the best routine.  Here is one of mine (before I got my best physique).  I liked my music choice.

thanks alot, NJflex.  That was at 232 and the next year (03) I was 260 at nationals weigh in and decided I just wasn't on and because I can be a basket. case at times I pulled out....Regrets? no, but I do wish I didn't pull out.  Not sure how I would have done against tough competition, but this shot is about two weeks before and I was in pretty ok shape.  The routine is my first show using stuff and back in the NPC after 8 years competing as a natural.  Yeah, i do love the old school approach toward posing.

Pretty 'out there' style of posing. The music was a good choice, too. I like that old style, 'statuesque' posing he did, like the twisting back shot, and then releasing the arms suddenly. Looks very cool! He didn't get many, if any cheers until the end. I wonder why that was.

I don't like the constant opening and closing of his hands. And constant extending and contracting of his biceps. That was too repetitive.

I'm a big fan of that style. Really makes it seem so much more impressive. You open the hands to call attention, then close them to finish off the pose in classic style. I believe Ed Corney used to do that.

Like I said, I was there in 84 and no one said a word or cheered till he was done. Everyone was entranced by him. Remember, back then these guys were the best and you rarely had any really huge guys walking around in the audience like you do today. It was different back then. On this particular day it was in Madison Square Garden, the lights, the music, guess you had to be there.  ;D
