GREGG is GOOD for bodybuilding.....
« on: November 11, 2006, 03:12:02 PM »
the "ramblin' freak" can and will bring more publicity ie. money to bodybuilding.
and publicity whether its good or bad = GOOD publicity.

he never called himself a pro once. just because people "think" he's a pro is the way media portrays him. so what, other people pay $$$ to get the "perks" as far as being perceived that way, you can't hate/blame him for that. if anything he IS GREAT FOR THE SPORT only reason people even glimpse into this world now. its not because of any bodybuilders or top if not the top shows like mr.o.(not a knock on anyone)  yeah mainstream would not overly accept guys in thongs oiled up flexin' & posin' but still, there could be more than now. your not lookin' to get everyone one but you can get more. the sport can certainly get more popular, somehow.  as it stands right now, hes the best thing, and watch because he will be.

Wow you're certainly ignorant to what this sport needs , this sport doesn't need an ex-drug dealer ex-con as its represenitive , it doesn't need a guy who to anyone with any sense doesn't even look like a bodybuilder , it needs someone who is articulate , educated , well spoken ummm someone without a collection of felonies

Someone like Phil Heath , Phil is what the sport needs right now not someone who is a pathetic attempt at being bodybuildings Howard Stern , the Archtype for what the sport needs is someone like Lee Labrada , with a classic phsyique , college educated with an Engineering degree , a married faimly man , Kevin Levrone  who used to visit sick children in the hospital , Shawn Ray who raises money for charity , someone like Lee Haney who has a camp for underprivliged inner city kids to escape to

And he's not going to bring any money into the sport , hell most of the money comes from inside the sport anyway , supplements , gear ( not that kind ) gyms , machines , ever wonder why someone lile Nike , Reebok or Addias doesn't want any part of bodybuilding? very few sponsors outside the sport want anything to do with it , hell in the mid 90s Yates had Egg Beaters and that was one of the few outside companies like Don Long and Viveran , no mainstream company want anything to do with bodybuilding for a host of reasons and greg is supposed to bring money into this sport? lol

The weird thing about Valentino is that he actually WAS a good bodybuilder at one time, before he ruined himself. He represents everything BAD about bodybuilding, but has the balls to be a straight shooter. I think many of his exploits are exaggerated..........but they are humorous and entertaining none the less.

I definitely posted this in the wrong thread so I'll repost it here

You are wrong Lion.

Noone on earth who knows very little about training will see GV on tv and be empowered to lift weight.  Quite the opposite.  Him being focussed on would be no less damaging then having a guy who lost a limb from a bad t shot (or whatever).  Its the same effect.  Nobody wants to look like him.

Whilst he might not promote himself in relation to bodybuilding he is surely being portrayed that way.

(Its like carting out my avatar image as a testament to breeding - completely counterproductive).

If you'd make that popping sound, you'd realize Lion666 is absolutely correct.

As if Coleman has done anything for bbing. He can barely enunciate his own name much less interview for Tyra Banks or explain training techniques -- in detail -- on his video. Wheeler? Nasser? Even Levrone lost all his weight and disassociated himself from bbing when he got into movies.

You all ask for another Arnold to bring bbing back into the light...well here's your next "Arnold", like it or not.

Garraeth, I thought I read posts a while back where you killed Valentino? What made you change your mind about the Ramblin' Freak?

My problem with him is he says he is a straight shooter who loves his fans. He also says synthol doesn't do shit. Then why does he sell it on his web site? Selling something to your fans who you claim to love that you admit doesn't do shit isn't very ethical in my book.

for once i agree with you ND.... the guys delusional.... cant even addmit he's only famouse for being the guy who injected the most oil into his arms...

we (the sport) needs YOUNG guys, with good SHAPE, who are POSITIVE that the youth of america can look up too.... so that parents can encourage their kids to go to the gym and admire BB's again... thats how it was in the 90's, those guys (the venice crew) were making money driving sports cars, living a life that people wanted... main stream sports have that... we have gregg valentino

But how is that any different from your favorite bber (or, pick any) endorsing the latest snake oil? I see no difference.

The difference is Gregg has publicly stated the stuff is shit yet he still sells it. In the next sentence he says he loves his fans, that he doesn't lie, he is keeping it real etc... He isn't any better than than that zuccone Ferrigno who he is constantly bashing.

as far as needing a "squeeky clean" bb'r to be "good" for the sport, image wise it does nothing.... good does NOT - $$$$ so..... what about controversy, must do well because mainstream media uses it all the time to sell products so... good really = $$$ whats good for the image may not be the same as being good for the wallet. wrestling made about 1.75 biliion dollars from last years wrestle mania, all the show in bodybuildings history may have not even come close to that number, Bodybuilding needs to take a page or something that resembles a page out of wrestlings book. guys oiled up in thongs with muscles prancing around on stage is not cutting it, even if they were articulate ( because some claim ronnie is not which is reason being for his "lack of mainstream success")
the sport needs more. no matter what people/public will see bodybuilders even if they are natural, to the public it doesn't matter because natty or not they are all steriod users. finally you have a guy willing to admit it (steroid use) and does not lower his head about it. everyone gets pissed at guys that say they don't use steroids or even better the guys that use but only 12 weeks before a contest (yeah right). now enter gregg, who lets you know he used crazy amounts but no, there still has to be more. it's crazy, if he let you know that much it wouldn't be worth hiding anything else, he's not trying to look good he is just telling the truth.
