very good post on the differences between bbing and power lifting.

there is absolutely NO WAY a 15 y.o is ACTUALLY even remotely close in strength to cutler, but they use comparitive weights, why?

because their SOLE intention is to put up the greatest poundages possible in nominated lifts.

the only 'style' a powerlifter should be interested in is the style that is going to help him to move that bar down and up WITHIN THE RULES OF THE ORG. nothing else is of interest to him. he will arch his back (so a lolley ball can fit under it whilst still keeping his butt on the bench, he will take a wide grip and bring that bar down in the shortest possible range of motion (the gut is a good place and some of these benchers can get that gut out further than a 9 months pregnant bohemian woman), they keep the shoulders as retracted as far back as possible to shorten the range further, ridiculous leverage adavantages, push off with the legs, use very thick multiple ply suits, basically every trick in the book to go from bottom position to lockout of the elbows as efficiently as possible within the rules (or even outside if they can get away with it).

this thread is exactly why bbers, sports (other than p/lifting) trainers that should completely forget about bench press numbers. there are 15 yr old boys with 38 inch chests and 13 inch arms owning you.
