I've trained through pnumonia and broncial infections, not the smartest thing to do but I did it.  It probably prolonged it and I don't think I'll do it again, I just had an asthma inhaler close by and hit it when I had to...

haha, natural al=retarded

pnemonia equals increased heart rate
working out equals increased heart rate
albuterol is a beta agonist that mimics adrenaline and increases heart rate

altogether you have the makings of a smashing good heart attack, when a week of rest would have done the body good. id like to see a liver a person with hepatitis, taking M1T, and drinking at the same time. just work through it matt, stop being a pussy and train like a man.

Take 1 or 2 weeks off to let your system recover. Don't force yourself to train - its not worth it. Don't worry, you're not going to dramatically shrink or lose all your strength.

[its probably wise to consult a doctor for specific advice. Give him a sob story and maybe he'll give you some deca to help 'recover']

wow.  amazing, you made that assesment of me from that little post.  I was not hitting the inhaler every 2 minutes or anything, maybe once in awhile.  Usually at the end of a session if I got out of breath.  Trust me, I've had asthma my whole life and if I didn't do anything when I had a broncial infection I wouldn't do a thing from November to March, I've learned to work around it.  I avoided alot of movements that would get me breathing heavily like squats and deadlifts, I also made sure I had plenty of menthol cough drops while I was training, they help alot or maybe I just think they do, could be a placebo effect.  I did take time off from training but after 2 or 3 weeks you get a little antsy.

Good stuff!  I lose muscle quickly and I don't have any to spare.  I just want this to do the least amount of damage possible.

Matt, any muscle you lose will all be in your head. If you lose a few pounds you will gain it back within a week of resuming training and being healthy.

when u say stabbed in the back, and then you say you have back pain, do you mean an actual "stabbed in the back" or just in the mental sense?  Sorry, not familiar with whats going on here.

Basically my 19 year old cousin said he needed $1,000 for an emergency.  I told him to talk to his dad and he kept asking me over and over and over again, knowing that I'm a nice guy but also very naive with my generousity and easy to be taken advantage of by selfish, worthless dumb pricks like him.  When he accidentally let the cat of the the bag that he bought his pregnant girlfriend 60 roses his dad stopped dead in his tracks and asked where he got the money from.  My cousin froze like an ice cube and later on I fucking flipped on him and the dumb piece of shit had the never to blame it on roid rage and and didn't even acknowledge how disrespectful he was.  I even told him I had made loans like that many times with the same promises and never got the money back and he kept pressuring me knowing I would cave like an idiot, which I did.  I was so pissed that I told my uncle and he explained my cousin has a huge drug addiction and probably spent the remainder of the money on drugs.

Just out of curiosity how were you "diagnosed" with pneumonia.

Did you have a chest xray or bloodwork done? Did your family doc listen to your chest.

Also, what antibiotics are you on?

I went to the ER last night and got a chest XRAY and a throat swab.  The doc came back and said it was pneumonia and prescribed Zithromax (started last night).  The last time and only other time I used antibiotics was the same one in April of 2005 when my dad passed on a nasty bacterial infection to me which I came down with exactly when my undergrad at university was complete.  I blame him 100% for his disgusting negligence and public health risk which first off could have killed him (Jim Henson died in similar circumstances), and he made me incredibly ill.

My pulse was up to 128 at rest before and my blood pressure was around 98/38, although I've had readings as low as 32 even during normal times, and pretty well never as high as 50.  :-\

A lot of the advice here is too "hardcore" for me, like something Tom Prince, Don Long, or Flex Wheeler would give me.  I never had intentions of training while sick - I just wanted to know the best strategy for getting back into it once I recover.

Some of the other advice is very much appreciated and means a lot to me - I honestly feel like death right now.  :-\

I was diagnosed with this yesterday.  :(

I'm pretty sure I came down with it on Monday.  I think the mental stress caused by my cousin stabbing me in the back, coupled with the heavy pollution in Fort Frances weakened by immune system to the point where I was more susceptible to it.  I honestly haven't ate or drank much of anything in that time.  I don't even want to step on the scale.

How do you guys work around stuff like this?  I haven't been to the gym since I got sick because I don't want to weaken my immune system further.  Has anyone had pneumonia before?  If yes, how did you deal with it and how long did it take to gain back any weight you may have lost?

Fuck worrying about "weight". Just try to rest and get healthy.

Pneumonia is pretty tough all on its own, don't stress yourself out any further........

I had pneumonia two weeks ago but I still haven't gotten over my cough. I keep thinking that I am better and then I go workout and I just start coughing my head off; it makes it really hard to train with any intensity. I am going to continue to try to take it easy the next week or so and lower the intensity a little until my cough is gone. Good luck with your recovery also.

Been there, man.

Take it easy.

You'll be back in full strength soon.

Nice to see someone who came down with it recently and beat it, except for small and pretty well harmless parts of it.  Like I said, I honestly feel like death right now - I've never been as ill in my life.

Thanks.  I can say one thing right now - I'm not getting any worse.  And the phlegm in my lungs is minimal.  Is that a sign that my body is handling the illness well?  I know I come across as a know-it-all on here, but I have no problem admitting that medicine is not at all something I know well.

Thanks for the ref.  And being young is the reason why I think I will recover from this well.  In addition I would bet I am in better than average health for people in my demographic.

My friend's dad is 64 and a smoker and doesn't believe in antibiotics.  ::)

yo matt. few supps you could pick up that would speed up the process.

vitamin c-3000mgs a day
iron and vitamin e

two big things with bacterial pneumonia would be GARLIC and OIL OF OREGANO

seriously the oil of oregano from oreganol is potent as hell and much better then most antibiotics that are made. many, many studies done on it and it is even used to treat sewage, it is strong as hell and wont impact beneficial bacteria negatively like allopathic antibiotics. raw honey would also help. but if i were you id do a little research on oreganol p73 and its effects on multiple bacterial strains, it is very strong, and is being used against resistant bacteria.

Antiobiotics used over and over make your body weaker and more susceptible.

Yes, but he is 64 and little bugs can kill him at that age.

ya no sweat, here is a good read on it that i posted on the board i admin on.

http://www.thepowermall.com/oreganoproducts/faq.htm.

awesome products for any infection, saves trips to the doctor for my sinus infections all the time, and its good to cycle to enhance the immune system, but i wouldnt take it for longer then a month at a decent dose, may have some mild effects on beneficial bacteria. the thing with regular antibiotics is that the stop replication of the bacteria, oregano kills bacteria by exothermic reactions, literally heating them up and suffucating the bacteria, therefore no resistance is possible. anyway enough rambling, good read above, should help a ton.

garlic is antibacterial too and antiviral with immunomodualting effects. another thing that is good about the two products is that they combat yeast/fungus problems brought on by antibiotics your taking so that is a bonus as dirreahea and fungal infections often due occur.
