my band plays in bars, and there are always guys like that.  50 years old, and either a compete 911 truther who has seen thru the BS of wars we continually start, or completely neocon about 'those damn rag heads we need to kill'.  Usually when presented with facts, they tend to get a bellyache, take a shit, then change the conversation.

Yeah that is how My Uncle is. I would make statements about flaws with the war. he would counter them with " look what they did at 9/11", "kill em all".

9/11 is their 'override' card.  They think back to the fear and anger they felt that day, and use it to override the logic of arguments you present.

Many are idiots.  Some are ex-military and floor me with their points of view.  With age comes experience.  Some of the guys I talk to have served 20 years, and whether they're far left or far right, I always learn something.  Ya gotta be careful, as a young college kid, not to discount the wisdom that comes with making it to 50 lol... they see a lot.
