What does bodybuilding mean to you?
« on: November 24, 2006, 06:37:45 PM »
For me bodybuilding is sculpting the perfect physique. A physique that makes all the heads turn in delight. A physique that everybody would love to have and that would represent the people. A lot of what we see today is far from what I had in mind when I was younger. I bet those same bodybuilders would feel shame had they foreseen the future as young oaks. Size at the expense of everything else just kills the mystic magic touch people would associate to this great sport. The bodybuilding champion should have the following mastered in his arsenal:

- Proportion
- Symmetry
- Size
- Charisma
- Posing Skills
- Full vocabulary

What would be your ultimate physique if you could pick anyone past or present?
just push some weight!

BBing has gone from a cult sport to mainstream and now to cult again. I think the physiques have alot to do with that. Personally, I admire the early physiques like Siegmund Klein, Sandow, Herman Gorner and Clancy Ross (although from a little later than the rest.) You'd be hard pressed to find any natural with the pure mass at the same bodyfat of those guys. They were strong as hell, because BBing was as much a strength competition as it was a physique comp back then. They had to be in great shape, not like today.

As Arnold said, nutrition was better back then; there was less junk food available and people actually knew a thing or two about training (even with the lack of knowledge available.) Nowdays, "everyone wanna be a bodybuilder" but most are sad excuses for trainers (like me right now.)

As for perfect physique, there are too many to name. I just want to be the best I can be.

I think the bodybuilder is an artist. He first creates an image of how the end result of his physique will realistically look like with the proper sculpting and uses that vision as motivational fuel.

isn't there something in the middle of bodybuilder and powerlifter?

like, a guy who doesn't diet down to 4% and wear oil and thong for a trophy, but doesn't get a spare tire in an effort to more 10 more kg on the bench?

it just means, to me, being a bigger better person. always improving.

Sure, check guys in the 1920's and 30's. Ripped, powerful physiques that actually did shows of strength onstage to win trophies.

Bodybuilding is a way of life to me. It helps me to deal with the "Stress" of my job
and deployments. If I could have anyone's body, it would be that of "Flex Wheeler" in his prime 8)

Exactly. Back in the day these guy's were strong, and in shape. Didn't drop dead on the floor after running half a mile. Back then it was real, unlike today.

Bodybuilding to me means using resistance training with weights and sound nutritional principles to build the most perfectly developed physique in the history of the world.

I have almost attained this.  8)

Besides being healthy, reading many of the top publications during the previous modern decade meant quite a bit to me. Compare FLEX of this year or the last year to the issues of FLEX in 2000 and few years before the 90's ended.

To me it means not coming in last in an online cyber contest

why even enter if you look like crap...and it certainly means spending more time training instead of starting stupid threads.

Must be a canadian thing...man, I am sorry that the US annexed them.
since we made Canada a US territory they have become a bunch of skinny little schools that don't want to train.

Here comes the money shot
