you didn't like what was on TV, you had to get up and change the channel

there was no caller id, you had your kid answer the phone if you were avoiding someone

a penny could actually buy something

Completely understand, however all of your examples only make today sound better.  :D

Aye!... and tha could take tha lass out t'picture house, then t'pub and av ten pints and go t'chippy for a fish supper, get bus home and still av change outta ten bob
