Fact: Pantera was a glam band essentially and not too far off from Bon Jovi. This is a fact that can't be disputed. When they finally realized that they sucked in that genre they took a look around and realized that acts like Metallica were wildly successful simply being themselves and playing hard, fast music. At that point a new image was born. THAT is how they copied Metallica.

Fact: His name WAS Diamond Darrell...Dimebag may not be hardcore but it's fucking "Hitler" compared to Diamond.

Fact: he was a fat, bloated alcoholic mess at the time of his death.

Seriously though, Dime was a massive guitar player (better than Kirk could ever dream) and they definitely evolved into their own thing. Cowboys, Vulgar, and Driven are near perfect albums. After that they were a little uneven and by Reinventing the Steel I was pretty disappointed.

Not to beat a dead horse but you clearly missed every post prior to this. They tried "selling out" long before they "made" it and failed.

As far as the term "selling out", every band sells out in one way or another. Otherwise they'd make music for free in their basements.

Lastly, the Black album was Metallica's biggest "sell out" and shocked the shit out of everyone (not in a good way) the first time they heard it.

ok Pantera with Phil Anselmo post 'glam band' were kick ass and never sold out - Phil was a badass and still is, damn shame abuot his probs with Dimebag but Pantera was much more non-commercial than Metallica --- I lived in Dallas and have seen fans for both bands
