I got one of these early in the year.  Best pic and sound I've ever had.  Well worth it.  I got the 52" commercial brand.  I don't know If you can get a commercial, but they are made better.

Recommendations & Consumer Reports in particular, that can be found in public libraries, are useful guidelines. Following that, if you want to get the best possible there's still nothing like going to a big store with plenty of choices and comparing as many TVs as possible.

If possible sleep on it, go back a second time to compare only the better TVs found initially.
