dealing with break from training
« on: December 20, 2006, 07:57:00 AM »
I know this question has been asked over and over again but this time I'll pay attention to the replies  ;D

Seeing the holidays are upon us and I'll be abroad so... how do I adapt my diet so that I do not get too fat or lose to much weight?  I was thinking drop the carbs and keep the protein the same?
It hasn't helped...

Dropping carbs during the holidays seems like a tall order.  I would try to keep your overall nutritional program going with the addition of one reasonable holiday cheat meal per day for social reasons.  Expect a moderate weight gain from which your recharged body will be ready to "get back into the game" in a week.  Happy holidays.

Thanks, sounds like pretty good advice.  Was going to try and do some running to keep the cheat meal's damage to a minimum

Good idea.  Let's say you consume an extra 500 calories per day (i.e., your cheat meal is 900 calories instead of a standard 400 calorie meal), that's a pound of fat added in a week.  But if you burn even 250 of that per day (1/2 hour on the eliptical for me), your net fat gain in a week is 1/2 pound which is not a big deal.

Or, assuming you have built a good foundation, have a few treats, but not a binge fest.  Unless you compete, you aren't going to "ruin" your physique in a few days.  You can't.  Relax a tad, then be ready to get back to business sooner than later.  IMO.
