how do you guys celebrate Christmas in the ghetto? sometimes i feel sort of insulated living in a rather affluent suburb so i was wondering.

It's a way of connecting & having some history towards something that they don't feel they're part of in America. Also, they are tied to the continent, indirectly or otherwise.

To be "American" means being of anglo-saxon origin. You'll never see the media refer to some white guy as "white american" or "german american" but "american." But a black, asian or any person that's not white will be refered to as "african american" or "asian american."

I'm a Black American. What makes you think that people who look like me in this country do not have direct ties to the African continent?

Were you educated in an American school system? Did they offer social studies classes where you're from?
