UFC vs PRIDE FC salaries
« on: December 30, 2006, 06:31:59 AM »
we all know Dana is a tight fisted bastard when it comes to paying his fighters, but i just came across this list released by the NSAC in regards to Pride's salaries

Fedor Emelianenko - $100,000
Mark Coleman - $70,000
Kevin Randleman - $40,000
Mauricio Rua - $25,000
Pawel Nastula - $20,000
Josh Barnett - $60,000
Sean O’Haire - $15,000
Eric Esch - $30,000
Vitor Belfort - $30,000
Dan Henderson -$50,000
Yosuke Nishijim - $15,000
Phil Baroni - $15,000
Travis Galbraith - $2,000
Kazuhiro Nakamura - $10,000
Joey Villasenor - $3,000
Robbie Lawler- $10,000

not too different, and probably alot of guys there would make more in UFC. I know for a fact Dana would pay a hell of alot more than that for Fedor to fight in America for him. Maybe its a reflection of how Pride are trying to break out of Japan, but i expected alot more for their fighters

I wonder how Baroni feels about getting the same payday as O'haire...

Shogun's salary is the one that stands out for me, i thought he would be making almost double that a fight

Hasn't it been documented that the fighters are paid very large bonuses that didn't show up on the salary lists. This was what they were paid just for getting in the ring. It's been said Fedor is making upwards of 1 million a fight.

yeah thats true, but without the bonuses the straight fee for a fight is much less for someone of Fedors caliber than you would think. The man is earning less than Sylvia for god sake!

Does it really matter if he's making $500k+ regardless of if it's a straight salary or not? If they weren't being paid as much as the UFC, I don't understand why dozens of top fighters would go out of their way to fight in Pride.

im just saying that their flat fees are nowhere near what i would have thought. Anyway, i doubt the win bonuses etc would more than double their cash otherwise it defeats the purpose. Why pay someone a fee to fight then give them 3 times the fee as a bonus for a win? It doesnt make sense

Well I think everything needs to be taking into account. salaries, bonuses, sponsors etc.

but Pride been big in japan for so long, question is if the market is growing there or if it's steady. on the us, on the other hand, if it truely has the potential to outsell boxing, then the money that is in boxing should eventually be in mma. so let's say for the next 5 years or so there can be some big $$$ fighting in the us. ufc also previously been in europe at least once (england) where as pride is almost exclusive to japan. ufc has the pontetial to spread to more countries, and add far more bigger sponsors than "mickey's get stung" in the us.

Where did you get those "official" numbers?  They are not posted on the NSAC website. Just interested.

these salaries are based on each fighters purse from pride32 held in las vegas and could well be true or made up, who knows. interesting to note is how randleman got $40k for losing to shogun who got $25k.

i doubt these figures are accurate though considering fedor usually makes 800k per fight. he knocked back a fight in heroes for a proposed 1.5 million on nye 2 years ago

you also have to consider that fighters get paid based on pay per view figures, sponsors, attendance etc.. pride lost a great deal of publicity here in japan last year when fuji tv cancelled it's contract with pride due to scandals. dse, the owners of pride rely on pay per view now and has basically vanished from the public

thats why i said it could be based on Pride trying to break a new market, but there is a link somewhere which actually states it is an official release from NSAC and backs it all up
