Hudson & W. A. Ricketts, 1980). The men were exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual, and lesbian videotapes, and changes in penile circumference were monitored. They also completed an Aggression Questionnaire (A. H. Buss & M. Perry, 1992). Both groups exhibited increases in penile circumference to the heterosexual and female homosexual videos. Only the homophobic men showed an increase in penile erection to male homosexual stimuli. The groups did not differ in aggression. Homophobia is apparently associated with homosexual arousal that the homophobic individual is either unaware of or denies.

Who really cares? Are there gay people in BB? Sure are. Have some guys resorted to "gay for pay" and all the other bullshit we hear about? I'm sure they have.

Bottom line is, there are plenty of us who have never done anything remotely involved in Gay for pay...and have worked plenty hard to get to the pro level working for a living and being able to hold ourselves with respect and dignity.

I know this type of stuff goes on...but it is the exception, not the rule...or the norm.

Please...no one gets "coerced" of "forced" into any type of this activity...the reason so many fools find themselves in the unique predicament of "gay for pay" etc....is that they had no business coming out to L.A. to begin with.

No job, no means of support, no money saved, no place to stay other than their car...just a "dream" of being discovered and the next big thing in the BB world.

Unless you are in the industry, do we really actually care about anything on this website?  Whats the point of these boards? Bob, you say if it has nothing to do with you, you dont give it a second thought, while at the same time you post about things that have nothing to do with you.  Its all about opinions, thats what these boards are for.  Its entertainment, gossip etc.  So, since people take interest in the bodybuilding industry and the individuals involved in them, why not be curious about these peoples personal lives?  If somebody makes some claim that for example ronnie coleman was doing homosexual favors for judges-it has nothing to do with me but-I'd like to know the truth so maybe I can form an opinion since Im INTERSTED in the industry.  When I get off these boards I dont give it a second thought.

Also, the reason why Jimmy doesnt exactly sound very truthful is because of the language or choice of words he uses, kinda vulgar and not serious.(and some of these stories are unbelievable)  But he's been in the industry forever and its intersting to hear what he says.  People want proof, prove to me that it didnt happen, exactly, we'll never know the truth.  In my opinion, I look at all these bodybuilders tryin to make it, and there is no money in bodybuilding (only for a selected few), desperation comes into play and the people with money take advantage of it.

I drove to Los Angeles in October 1968 with $200 in my pocket and a Shell credit card. I slept in my car for a week or more. Joe Gold asked me how long I was going to be in LA and I said a few weeks. He didn't charge me to train at his Golds Gym. I did offer to do cleaning at the gym but he didn't want any help. That was nice of Joe. I met a few guys there including Dave Draper, Zabo, and Arnold. I became mates with a cynical guy from Chicago named Chip Wilson. He is in the photo I took of Arnold, Chuck Fautz, Zabo and Chip that was published in MTI back in 69. When Chip found out I was sleeping in my car he invited me to sleep on the sofa in his flat and gave me keys to his place that he shared with his mate from Chicago. No, they were definitely not queer.

I lasted a month in LA. I had a social security card but didn't feel right trying to get a job in LA because Canadians could be deported for illegally working there and I didn't want anything bad on my record in case I tried to emigrate there. I see Arnold is still in California while I live in Sydney.

In the old days a few guys like Larry Scott appeared in mags that were aimed at gays. Bodybuilders and models wore g-strings and we all wondered if appearing in those magazines affected their placing in AAU Mr America contests. Well, Larry Scott never enterred the AAU Mr America but did win the IFBB Mr America. We all thought that Joe and Ben were giving us pure bodybuilding contests that didn't have interviews and athletic points. We suspected that the AAU people were too controlling of who won their contests. Bob Hoffman was behind the AAU bodybuilding and weightlifting scene. I heard plenty of his stories first hand when I visited York in 1965. He seemed very heterosexual to me but he delighted in relating tales of his sexual prowess to those of us using his gym that summer.

Ray Mentzer and his gal, Kathy, stayed at my place for months in 1987-8. He used to tell me how the AAU had meetings of the officials in two different hotels. I asked why they needed two different hotels and he didn't know but I think he supposed something clandestine was occurring. He accused Joe of influencing who won the Mr America contest because he said whoever Joe picked to go to the judges meeting with won the show. He said that Joe took him to the judges meeting in 1979 but didn't think that was suspicious! I laughed and told him that Joe had picked him to win and he did win. Naturally, Ray was adamant that he deserved to win and Joe had nothing to do with it! I had to smile at the obliviousness of Ray. Anyone who met Ray knew he was an intense guy who saw lots of unsavoury things going on. Ray was intelligent and just wanted to be left alone because he didn't bother anyone. Ray and I got along just fine. I even introduced him to Pam who he eventually married but divorced many years later. I stayed with Pam and Ray in April 1991. He told me he was preparing for a big show but got sick when he approached 300 pounds. He said several of the other big guys were getting sick when they got huge, too. He never said what he suffered from but we all know his kidneys were shot and he died a tragic death related to needing to be on dialysis a few times every week. When his brother, Mike, died in 2001 Ray must have been shocked because Mike was his last hope of a kidney transplant. The sad thing is Mike was in really bad health and probably could not have donated his kidney to Ray. I doubt Ray wanted to live the rest of his life hooked up to some machine.

Well, Bob, you mentioned that guys showed up in LA without much money and slept in their cars, etc. So I related that I did the same thing but didn't end up doing what many are suggesting was 'necessary' to survive. Luckily I had a home and girlfriend to go back to in Vancouver. I do wonder how desperate some get and some sort of 'prostitution' might happen if someone gets destitute. I know what it was like to follow my dream to Los Angeles but not be able to stay there. Those who do stay might have to compromise their ideals. I don't look down on anyone but we can guess that some of what Jimmy is saying must have happened and is still happening in LA.

I agree with you that this is not coercive behaviour. I suspect that bodybuilders are worried that if gay men fancy them then that must reflect badly on them. That fear might be behind all the gay bashing and homophobia we see here on Getbig and in bodybuilding circles, generally.

I did hear a story about some gay rich guy offering to give Arnold $1000 to do oral sex on Arnold after an Olympia in the old days. Arnold apparently turned the guy down but another guy in the contest said he would do it for that much money! We never heard if that short guy actually did anything or if it was said as a joke.

We did have the former world's richest man attending the NABBA Universe in England and apparently he was gay. He conducted himself privately so we never heard any stories about his activities but it was hinted that he fancied musclemen.

I have seen little guys in Judge's uniforms at IFBB contests in Sydney but some were gym owners. I never suspected they were gay.

I think Jimmy is exaggerating that stuff and I dislike when such things happen because I prefer accuracy when it comes to reality and history.
