Yeah, but my educated guess is that it was taken close up with a wide angle lens camera which makes a huge difference.

Yeah stretched like MD covers. Not morphed as such just a bit wider than real life.

wasn't stretched either...obviously the camera angle of the original image is important to the look of his overall size, but the image was printed exactly as is from the original Busek photo, except for the background being colorized.

That is Arnold as he was

Awesome cover shot.  Gotta love Arnold.  But how is it that Flex always seems to come out of the blue with these "NEVER BEFORE SEEN WORKOUTS" from the Arnold archives?  If Flex is around 50 years after I die I swear they will still come out with these never before seen Arnold workouts/secrets.  Too bad Alexxx isnt around to debate.

This is the response from Shawn Perine from IronAge who wrote the article on Arnold in that issue. I think it's a compliment to Arnold that in some photos he looks so unbelievable that people, well... don't believe it.

I saw the original kids- it's as real as my 12" guns! And I'm glad you fellas enjoyed the article. It was a ton of fun to write. Basically, it was my chance to put my obsessive reading about Arnold over the past quarter century to use. So now what do I do with it?

It blows me away that the magazines rarely use pics of bodybuilders of today.  I mean where is Jay Cutler and the others.  I don't understand why the IFBB pros don't have someone to push for more exposure for the pros.  This would bring on more sponsors and give the pros more sponsorship money from the additional exposure they recieve.  FLEX and M&F constantly use Arnold and other old timers on their covers.  Where is the support for the bodybuilders of today.  I don't understand it.  The IFBB really needs to find someone to help get the pros more exposure and money.

On a sidenote; the professional surfers have just formed their own organization so now they are together and have more power to get more prize money and sponsorship dollars.  It has already worked for them, prize money has increased.   To bad the IFBB doesn't have someone to do this.

Gutler was on the cover of Flex 2 issues ago scaring the very few fans away from the "sport" with his refrigirator look holding the Sandow.

Actually they do use todays pros on the covers. cutler been on flex cover 10 times. muscle fitness 6 times. muscle mag 5 times. ronnie coleman been on flex cover 16 times. muscular development 5 times.
lee priest has 26 various covers all in all. etc etc.

That is 3 or 4 pros out of how many.  2 to 4 covers a year has an old timer on it like Arnold or Lou.  And generally their biggest issues have Arnold.

thats because they've crossed over to the celebrity and movie status and thus brings more people to pick up an issue who otherwise wouldnt because their recognition is bigger.

You don't read mags let alone actually look at the covers do you? It has been nothing but new guys, in the past year or so off the top of my head (flex covers) there has been 2 with Phill Heath, 1 Dennis Wolf, Johnnie Jackson, Branch Warren, Troy Alves, 2 Gunter, 2 Jay Cutler, Dave Henry, Darrem Charles. Oh and I think Arnold has only been on 1-2 in the past 2 years. Look at other mags and you will see basically the same trend.

I disagree. Something is wrong with that picture. Arnold's pecs were never that thick and bottom heavy. Yes they were thick, and when pumped his lower pecs did overpower his upper pecs, but not to the extent shown in that cover shot.

The picture is not legit. Sorry.

Sad but true. AMI/Weider/IFBB knows that with the black eye that steriods are putting on sports it is easier to relate to teens/adults with known classic "good guys" like Arnold or Ferrigno.  Hard to expose todays bodybuilder when the majority of the American public is looking at them and automatically screaming ROIDS.  Best way to sell the mag to the non bodybuilding fan is through known celebrities. Cena, Arnold, Triple H, Ferrigno, and so on.

I'm sorry but it is...exactly as supplied from the photographer.

and Albert Busek isn't about to distort a classic Arnold image that he shot back in the Arnold's bigger days
