Actually, that turned out to be false and it was translated incorrectly. They were only in negotiations at that point, and not just with Pride. Guess I should've corrected that.

I understand that getting a foothold in the American market would make Pride much bigger, but there are 100,000,000 people in Japan, and martial arts is much more a part of the culture than it is here. One would think that a mixed-martial arts fighting organization could not only survive there, but thrive.

It's not necessarily that Pride will fail, it's whether or not they'll be able to hold on top all the talent they have. If they can crack the American market somewhat they should be fine.

^^^BF, right on.  With the 40+ million that the UFC got from 66, if they can replicate those buyrates, they will have the cash to go after the bigger fish.  Why wouldn't Zuffa want someone like Fedor.  The American market would eat up exciting fighters no matter where they originate.  I hope DSE, Bodog, Showtime are able to keep pace with the UFC.  Competition improves the breed, and with the continual rise of popularity, so will purses, and then better and better athletes get attracted to MMA.

I dont doubt that Pride still has alot of money, but they cant possibly have the cash available that they had beforehand. Breaking the US can only be great for the company, and it will forge a strong competition between them and the UFC. I would love to see a mega bucks Inter-Promotional open Weight Tournament.
