Hail To The King: Tom Platz
« on: January 17, 2007, 10:43:56 AM »
monster 7 inch above parallel squats

7 inches above parallel you reckon? Check this out Heckler and I believe you'll retract your insult to the greatest.

Apparently this is shortly after his retirement.

This was during the great "squatoff" against Fred Hatfield in 1984 or 1986. Fred Hatfield, aka Dr. Squat is a powerlifter, the first human to ever squat more than 1000 pounds (see link below).

They organized a contest to see the results in two different kinds of approach,to weightlifting bodybuilding (high volume, moderate weight) Vs Powerlifting (low volume, heavy weight). First, they tried for maximum poundage. Platz got beaten soundly (600 some pounds for Platz vs 800 for Hatfield).

Then they tried for a maximum of repetition with a set weight (450 pounds). Hatfield got 6 and Platz got, well 23 as you can see in the video.

I think people equaling heavy weights with big muscle are just plain stupid and have no idea whatsoever about muscle biology. Volume and holistic training, in order to stimulate all 3 muscle fibers type is the only way to go. But then again, getbig is far from a scientific heavens. Adonis and his lackbrain principles are proof enough of that fact.

Here, dr.Squat lifting 1014 pounds sans belt or suit(click on the link middle of page):

I have no idea how to post a picture but here is a great shot of Dr.Squat and Platz during the face-off

The Great Squat Off was in 1991 at the FIBO in Germany.
It was on the stage of the WBF at the time Platz and Hatfield both worked for the WBF.
SO GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT THE NEXT TIME BEFORE YOU  start a thread........

What does me attending one of the squat-offs have to do with the year?
You know they have these things called "records" and "date keeping" that allow people that don't attend to know that there was more than one squat off.
I am not understanding you whatsoever....

IMO what Platz did is lots more impressive, those were ass to the ground squats! Just look at the leg development of the 2, Hatfeild's legs look like a regular Joe's. Didnt Chick say he squated 405lbs for 30 reps?  I dont believe it.

Here, dr.Squat lifting 1014 pounds sans belt or suit(click on the link middle of page):

most of what you said was made up. first off, it's roughly 500 pounds in the repetition contest, not 450. secondly, platz didn't max out around 600. the guy had been capable of doing sets with 585 no problem (i believe the official numbers were around 800 for platz and mid/high 800s for fred). thirdly, fred is wearing both a belt AND a suit in his record attempt, as well as knee wraps.

quit telling stories you make up as you go along.

Tom Platz is the reason I started bodybuilding back in 1981.
I took my father to a seminar at a local Worlds gym to see what a pro bodybuilder looked like in person.
After he gave a speech, he dropped his pants (had red posing trunks on) and the entire room just gasped at how freaky he was. I have been to a lot of shows and to Golds Venice to see other pros but I have never seen anything like his legs. When he took his sweater off, it was shocking to see how ripped he was. To be in that kind of condition and that well put together compared to Franco is ridiculous.
To this day I will never forget his look.
My dad was so impressed he leaned over and asked me what it would take to look like that and I told him that I needed a trainer to learn exactly what I needed to do to get big.
My trainer turned out to be Ifbb Pro STEVE DAVIS at Golds Gym Cleveland Ohio.

Re-read the post c**tscrape.

Why don't you explain it to me then....by you saying "you reckon?" that means you're asking me if I think those squats are 7" above parallel.
And since you were asking, I kindly obliged and told you that you're blind; because if you think he was anywhere near 7" above parallel, you must be blind.
Now back and cudgel yourself again.

the heckler in another thread about platz made the comment "monster 7 inches above parallel squats  ::)" in response to a flex magazine cover. i assume that's what the original comment was about.

I read it in "Power: a scientific approach" couple of years back. I re-checked everything yeaterday, before writting my post and in his book, he was referring to the 1986 squat-off.  The number really are 650 for 800 in max attempt.

You're totally idiotic thinking the doc could''ve done 800 in 1991, he was way past his peak back then!!!

I was pretty sure that vid was from that particular event but was mistaken.

His belt is pretty loose in the vid and he said on his board that it was only 4 inches. Most powerlifters I know consider that to be a Raw lift.

, and I don't know what you're referring to being a suit. You have absolutely no idea what a squat suit is if you think that what he is wearing is a suit.

I didn't make anything up, just check your facts right before opening your cocksucking mouth.

i agree with this, Platz could probably max at around 725 and i would believe that he could probably get a good set of ten with 600, Hatfield's max in his prime without the suit and wraps was probably in the high 800's maybe 900.

that's not a suit, and apparently he did manage to do a couple of sets with more than 1000 pounds totally raw.

Platz ain't that strong, period. He has good anaerobic/glycogenic capacity, yes, but HE IS NOT A POWERLIFTER!!!

Rubbing brain cells together...hmmm, can you tell me exactly how to do that imbecile?
Because I don't read every thread, nor remember all the the words, catch phrases, and quote (a quote box would have helped too, but I suppose that person didn't rub their brain cells together either) on this site; hardly means anything except that I missed a reference to another thread.
This sites members, can sometimes be so bloviating, it's laughable.

Oh well, I'm off to learn how to rub brain cells together.
