New Orleans people or Denver
« on: January 19, 2007, 06:34:56 AM »
Denver Post:

This text is from a county emergency manager out in the central part of Colorado after the recent snowstorm.

      WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from
a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI:  (that's For Your Information) for those of you in
New Orleans, Louisiana.

George Bush did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV.

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on
this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

No one shot at airplanes or helicopters.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do
something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.

No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris
Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.

No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types
to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and
didn't ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families.

Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is
"Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government
to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has
never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets
north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."

It does seem that way, at least to me.

I hope this gets passed on.

Maybe SOME people will get the message.  The world does
Not owe you a living.

Ahhh, am I not being politically correct?

Discuss, well I'll start by saying this is the most incredibly buttheaded thing I've ever read ::)  This is typical of an e-mail send out by an angry idiot that says pass this on a the bottom... You got this in an e-mail from some relative right...  Discuss.. It' absurd!!!  First, homes have not been destroyed on the scale of Katrina.  Lives were not in danger in the scale of katrina... I live here by the way...  The real impact in Colorado was to livestock.  Fema is working here and is going to help in much of the bill. http://www.chieftain.com/metro/1169125201/2  There will most likely end up being aid to ranchers: http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_5284349,00.html and National Guards aided in the saving of much of the livestock http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,650220480,00.html  This is a completely erroneous posting...

That email is rediculous.

I think the national average is what, 3 murders to every 100,000 people. Isnt it like 90 to every 100,000 in New Orleans?

Exactly.  And did anyone die (I mean in mass numbers).  Did anyone lose their home (in mass numbers).  I have sevral friends who were stuck in the snow.  They called me or I called them.  They were in their house with the fireplace blazing and watching TV.  My one friend and some of his friends went around the neighborhood to clear snow for people.  Though the storm was bad it wasn't even close to what happened in New Orleans.  Plus it is too cold for the President to go there.

I went to Denver...it was no big deal at all.

A few folks were snowbound for a very short period of time, but for the most part, electricity and water service were not compromised.  With exception of the lingering snow, life was pretty much back to normal rather quickly.

The assclown who called this a weather event of "Biblical Proportions" is a noob to the region.  probably a southerner... I've been through several storms this big.  Some areas may have recieved records but this is by far not the first time several feet of snow has fallen.  biblical proportions....  oh brother....

I was going to say, more people are killed in New Orleans in one day then in that whole Denver storm. The magnitude of this disaster goes for beyond the actual storm. Murder rate, crime, disease, environment you name it.

LOL!

At the same time, I've lived thru both and I gotta say the flooding is much worse.  When you're snowed in, you're cold but you can bundle up in blankets or set something on fire.  You have all your food and the only threat of death is freezing.

When it floods (as it did when Charley wrecked my town), the place was incredibly shitty.  3 feet of water everywhere.  Bugs and smell, 90+ degrees, etc.  Those in New Orleans had it worse - a wall of water hit them, drowning many quickly.  And bodies and shit and oil filling the streets in 10 feet of water, that is way worse than snow.

not defending the idiots who killed and robbed - we had very little of that here.  but to compare a blizzard to a flood as the same is way off.

I don't have to discuss shit... you had a meltdown and it was funny.  There, I discussed, happy?  LOL.

Honestly I could've cared less about Denver and after living in upstate NY for a couple years I know blizzards aren't at all threatening compared to a major flood.  Now, I DO think the people of Denver would've never reacted to a catastrophic flood like the human garbage of New Orleans.  As well I think the NO crowd would've taken any weather disaster, no matter how small, and did what they did.

I just thought it was interesting and knew if I posted I would get reactions like this and I was right.  I don't necassarily disagree with any of you so far.
