Sergio Oliva - 1971 NABBA Mr Universe

Here are some screenshots from the footage of Sergio at the 1971 NABBA Mr Universe. This is the show that Sergio lost to Bill Pearl. As you'll be able to tell from a couple of the prejudging shots, the decision was dodgy at best. Enjoy!!

WOW. Sergio's no where near his best and yet he DESTROYS Bill Pearl. What a bad decision. I wonder if that story about Sergio being rude to some kid and his dad (and the dad talking to the judges) really did screw him? Or was it his race?

DAMMN!!! Sergio's shoulders and arms look as if though they are photoshoped when in fact they are not. That is insane! Thanks for posting so many pics! No way he should have lost that!!

These are my favourites. His shoulders and arms look ridiculous. When you watch the footage, Sergio looks frightening at times with some of the poses he pulls off. No wonder bodybuilders were scared to death of him.

The footage is quite good actually, much better than the one from the 69 Olympia.

It does seem as though Sergio was screwed, judging by those comparison photos. One thing Pearl had was superior upper body conditioning. He looks much dryer than Sergio and had better abs, but Sergio had a better back, bigger arms and bigger/better quads. Close enough to question, though.

Got any other comparison shots?

that pic is insane..sergios arms and shoulders are crazy big..

in those pics sergio shoulders are totally mindboggling..i never seen such big shoulders compared to the rest of the body...thats sick lol
