Whoa.  Crazy Canadian.

Canadian Farmer on Trial for 26 Deaths

By JEREMY HAINSWORTH
Associated Press Writer

NEW WESTMINSTER, British Columbia (AP) -- A Canadian pig farmer confessed to killing 49 women and was caught before he could reach his goal of making it an even 50, prosecutors told jurors at the start of his murder trial Monday.

Robert William Pickton, 56, has been charged with killing 26 women, mostly prostitutes and drug addicts who vanished from Vancouver's impoverished Downtown Eastside neighborhood in the 1990s.

Prosecutor Derrill Prevett stunned the courtroom by saying that Pickton told investigators, including an undercover officer planted in his jail cell, that he had slain 49 women.

"I was going to do one more and make it an even 50," Prevett quoted Pickton as telling investigators. "I made my own grave by being sloppy." . . . .

Ya, it was really pretty horrific. His victims were low rent sex trade workers, and police ignored warnings to investigate him for years. It is rumoured that Vancouver prostitues all knew not to go to the pig farm because so many of them turned up missing after a visit there. Finally after years of ignoring complaints, the police acted. Supposed they are only trying him for 6 women, ...and after they get that conviction, they will try him for the other 20 women they suspect he is responsible for killing as well.

If you ever saw a picture of the guy, you'd know right away there was something very deranged and sinister about him.

There were parties held there all the time. It's wierd that people were oblivious of what they were dancing and drinking around. Creepy.

Yeah but they found severed heads and feet in his trailerhome and people were around that area all the time during parties. Plus you shouldnt be judging him  by his looks, but by his actions, his brother looks just as fucked but isn't charged with anything.

Even creepier is the fact that I know the guy's niece.

Cute girl, not strange at all...at least not that I detected.  When the case first broke about 5 years ago, though, the poor girl became a recluse.

Do you know that Canadians believe "only shit like that happens in the USA". They ignore the fact that they have plenty of homegrown criminals, sickos etc... in their own country!

Nah, we know we have plenty of wackos, just not as many per capita.

Before the Ng and Lake feeding frenzy, I think we used to not extradite death penalty cases back to the States. (He escaped up to Canada and was caught shoplifting in Alberta) Since it was feared that we'd get all kinds of serial killer crazies running up north, thankfully Canadians made the right decision and are sending them back to face the dirt nap needle.

I think per capita you do honey. If you extrapolate the number for 30 million against 305 million it would be a dead heat!

Well, I can't speak on this with any certainty, but did a really quick and dirty google search and these were the figures for 2001.

You guys barely sent Ng back to us.  I believe it was a split decision by the supreme court in Canada (or whatever it's called)?  It's too bad Ng didn't swallow cyanide pills like Leonard Lake.  Would have saved the California taxpayers a lot of money.  He'll be on death row for another 15 years or so.   >:(

If the murderer is Indian, though, you guys will allow him to escape punishment.

What's up with that?

I know.  It was shocking... but finally, at least they did the right thing. Personally I'm against the death penalty for humans.  But psycopaths/sociopaths have no human impulses so there seems to be no point in keeping them alive.

I remember this pig farm serial killer case from years ago.  Amazing it's taken this long to get the court case going.  But what was really sad about this whole thing is that all of a sudden the "families" of these girls came out of nowhere... there was a doc awhile back... showing baby pics and talking about what wonderful people these girls were. And yet, they were all low rent prostitutes and drug addicts. Obviously their families had given up on them long ago, and certainly hadn't done anything to help them while they were alive.  >:(

Judi, this is completely off topic but do you have any knowledge of how to get goods across the border from Canada into the USA? I have a quad that is stuck in Thunder Bay and they wouldn't let my friend in Canada bring it past US Customs. What the hell kind of paperwork do you need? Its owned by my girlfriend. Its not stolen or anything like that. The thing is a special edition Polaris and I really want to get it here somehow.

I have a question for the Canadians, it's just what my friend from Vancouver B.C. tells me...  He says most of the Natives up there are nuts and drink Lysol, he said they also shoot at people all the time.  Is he just bull shitting me?  I have heard a few Canadians call the Natives "Chugs"  :P

Did they say why they would not allow it? It might have to do with the individual you have delivering the vehicle. The other thing is the taxes on the vehicle. Was it purchased in Canada or in the US? Are the ownership papers properly completed? Could be six of this, half a dozen of the other. Give me a shout and let me know what's happening and I'll see what I can find out for you? I'm PM'ing you my number.

When you say "natives" are you refering to "status-Indians" or are you refering to their ethnicity? The reason I ask is because under Canadian law, those who move off the reserves often lose their indian status. A woman who marries a non-Indian, also loses her status.

I don't live near any native reserves. Conditions on many reservations can be considered relatively horrid. Many that have moved towards self government are quite prosperous and thriving, however, many still fall behind. In the city, most of the natives I've encountered, were either normal, self-sustaining upstanding citizens, or they were drunken and homeless. It's quite a culture-shock for many coming from the reservtions to the city. Many make the transition, others have difficulty coping. Then there are the natives who are so mainstream, you would not even know they were native unless they told you, as they appear like any other Canadian, and their ethnicity is not so easily discerned, often mistaken for Italian, Lebonese, French, and occasionally Japanese.

I've never met any native Canadians who drank Lysol, ...and I've never heard them referred to as "Chugs".
But just because I've never heard of it, doesn't mean it doesn't occur.

Hope That Clarifies.
