My job consists of developing solutions on Unix/Linux, not Microsoft.

Main job in the past year has been handling and processing large data sets on distributed systems and ranking algorithms.

A distributed computing is where all the nodes of the cluster act as if it was one unified computer.

Sometimes, within a non-distributed cluster nodes might perform different tasks... Thus not distributed.

You mean in the server racks? Connected by standard gigabit ethernet usually gives the bandwidth and latency we require, some SAN server's are connected via fibre optic cabling.
