Im trying to pick a favorite NHL and NBA team
« on: January 23, 2007, 05:58:33 AM »
For MLB, I like the Yankees
For NFL, I like the Giants

So for Hockey Im guess Im going to pick the Rangers.

I do not like Isaiah Thomas, therefore I will go outside of NY for for my NBA choice. Im leaning toward Dallas Mavs or New Jersey Nets

hahahahah yes!!!!!!!!! Wonderful picks. I'd go with the Mavs. If you're a Yankees/Giants/Rangers fan, the world will hate you if you like the Nets.

Phoenix Suns are probably the most fun team to watch in the NBA; I don't ever watch hockey.

The most historic franchise in NBA history, and also the top draw in the league, is the LA Lakers.

Absolute best franchise in NBA history.   :)  And they have the best basketball player on the planet in Kobe Bryant.

Well, I was going to say support the two teams I follow which are the Knicks and in the NHL, the Penguins. Since you don't like Isiah, I think you should go for the Spurs, Celtics or Pistons. With Webber now at the Pistons, they have a hell of a team on paper, but games aren't won on paper as we all know.

If you're referring to the fact that Kobe has not won the MVP award yet, you're correct.  If you're claiming he's not a MVP caliber player, you're incorrect.

That's because the country is full of haters.   ;D  But I'm glad people are coming to their senses about him.  I watch almost every televised Laker game and that kid is just phenomenal.  Every single game he makes at least one play that makes me say "wow."  No one can guard him.  Can dunk on seven footers.  Has a mid range game.  Can knock down threes.  He's a lock down defender when he needs to be.  Leads his team in scoring and assists pretty much every year.  Everyone else is in second place.

give me a little more credit than that. obviously Kobe Bryant has as much talent as anybody in the NBA.

Lamar Odom, Luke Walton, Smush Parker...i should hope Kobe is leading that team in every category possible. I don't know what the other players perception within the NBA is of Kobe, but something just doesn't seem right when the Lakers can't find another player to play with Kobe that is at least near his talent level.

He has done that pretty much every year he has been a starter, except Shaq led the team in scoring a few times.

I agree the Lakers have to get this guy another all star.  What a waste.

You mean The Big Fattie?   :)  I cannot believe the Heat won the title last year.  They are the worst NBA champion I can remember, from a talent standpoint.  Purely a one man show.  Shaq really sucked in the playoffs and in particular the Finals.

Lamar is an outstanding rebounder as well as being a very talented big man, so I wouldn't expect Kobe to out-rebound him (don't forget that Bynum is also slowly emerging as a good center)

As far as finding players to go with Kobe, there are few if any "near his talent level" and the Lakers are salary-capped from making a move.  If the money was freed up and such a player was available, I have no doubt that most would suit up with Kobe.

so who would you like to see the lakers sign? how come they are having such cap trouble? are they over paying odom? they don't seem to have a lot of talent. or veterans that would command high salaries

No salary cap room.  All we have every year is the mid level exception, which we gave to Radmanovich this year.  He has been a dud so far.  I think we don't get real cap relief till 08 or 09.

Odom isn't overpaid.  He is just out of position (playing the 4).  He's a small forward.  If we get a stud power forward it's over.

Just lost to the Bobcats.   :-\
