how long after the events did he say this?
were there any at that point?
1. NOBODY was talking conspiracy at that point.
2. Nobody except Howard Dean, Cynthia McKinney, and a group of congressmen who discovered Bush was alerted ahead of time and didn't act.
These people were mocked in the media as being unpatriotic for suggesting such things. Dean told reporters the truth. But the nation was at full war fervor at the time.
Bush was informed about 5 of the terrorists, the targets, and the date, on Aug 5th, but the german ambassador. He told his own newspaper too. ANd the head of teh FBI made an emergency trip - sirens blazing - to Crawford TX on Aug 6th with an important report "Bin laden determind to attack US".
Condi thanked him and sent him home, then it gets hazy who did what with the report.
Think about it - head of FBI takes an emergency flight and trip to Texas on Bush's break to hand deliver a report on bin laden. ANd condi tells him to go home.
She was rewarded for this incompetence (or crime) with promotion to Sec of State.
