A vitamin a day may do more harm than good
« on: January 24, 2007, 08:09:52 AM »
If you're banking on a daily vitamin to make up for any deficiencies in your diet, you may be getting a whole lot more — or less — than you bargained for.

Of 21 brands of multivitamins on the market in the United States and Canada selected by ConsumerLab.com and tested by independent laboratories, just 10 met the stated claims on their labels or satisfied other quality standards.

Most worrisome, according to ConsumerLab.com president Dr. Tod Cooperman, is that one product, The Vitamin Shoppe Multivitamins Especially for Women, was contaminated with lead.

On a positive note, several of the most popular multivitamins on the market did pass muster, said David Schardt, a senior nutritionist at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a nonprofit consumer advocacy group in Washington, D.C.

These included Centrum Silver, Member's Mark Complete Multi (distributed by Sam's Club), One A Day Women's and Flintstones Complete.

Im going out and getting Flinstones Complete!!!!

problems with some brands, especially those for bodybuilders is that they contain too much of some vitamines and minerals, overdoses.

I simply don't buy multivitamin stacks. I only buy some magnesium and zinc pills at a pharmacy. Magnespasil is a good choice.
I confess that I am almost sure that 90% of all protein supplements are a fake! I would like to see a study like this being carried out on bbing supplements...

I actually have had some experience with vitamins being overdosed. Years ago I used to take GNCs male oriented multi. well, after about a week of taking them every day as indicated on the bottle, I started having odd problems. The first was very very amber colored urine...the next was a severe dizzy...medicine-head/hangover feeling. I actually had to leave work it got so bad. I stopped taking them and it went away in a day.

Classic examples why the supplement industry needs regulating.  Yes prices would go up but the quality would increase and you would know whats on the label is in the bottle, instead of putting trust in Dynobolic Nutrition etc...

The best is by Beverly International.  Check out the dosages they have.  And you can't beat the quality.
