I spoke to one before and I also know 2 national level judge who did the USA's and Nationals in Miami.

It takes a long time unless you are in real real good w/ Manion. Otherwise how he did it was he was a competitor FIRST then got involved after many years with 'production/organization' of the shows...then being very involved w/ the circles moved on to judging local shows...then more local shows...then state-level shows...then a JrNationals...then a JrUSA's...and it escalates.

It's all about putting in time, politics, networking and being heavily involved.

Most judges are NPC show promoters. They all usually hold/host their own shows.

That doesn`t make sense at all.

So there are no real rules?

You definately DO NOT have to look like a bodybuilder to be a judge...at least that's the way it looks here in Southern Cal.

It's not that hard to get into judging at the local/regional level.
You need to talk to a show promoter and ask to test judge.  Then you should ideally have your scoring evaluated before you can be "OK'ed" to judge.  But there's no official test or certification as far as I know.

From there, I assume you'd have to work it pretty hard for a while to get up to the national and IFBB level.

Find NPC show promoters in your area and ask about test judging at the next show and judging future shows.  Usually local promoters are looking for people to help them out with the shows.

You should do it.

You'll have to follow the Pro league code of ethic

We, the Pro League Judges, realizing that our actions and decisions as judges
reflect on the good name of the sport of bodybuilding, fitness and figure, and
realizing the responsibility thereby placed upon us, pledge ourselves:
1. To apply honestly, impartially, and objectively all of the rules governing
competitions.
2. To safeguard the interests of all competitors on equal terms.
3. To cooperate in providing the best possible conditions for the benefit of the
Athletes, Judges and Officials.
4. To respect the feelings and competitive drive of the Athletes, and to make
reasonable allowances for their heightened emotions in the heat of
competition.
5. To respect the Constitution and Pro Rules and the requirements of an
effective administration and to cooperate willingly and promptly with the
officially elected or appointed Officials in the carrying out of their duties
and responsibilities.
6. To cooperate with the Promoters of the competitions by rendering decisions
clearly and promptly, and in accordance with the requirements of the
competition or judging procedures.
7. To refrain from attempting to influence the decisions of other Judges or
Officials, and to respect their individual opinions and decisions.
8. To assist the Pro League in the promotion of bodybuilding, fitness and
figure by acting as a goodwill ambassador of the sport, promoting the sport
in a positive manner, and protecting the good image and integrity of the
sport and the Pro League.
9. To work for the Pro League, not against it, in promoting its values, morals
and ethics.
10. To exercise our right of protest in a courteous, respectful manner, following
the proper chain of command.
11. To refrain from malicious gossip and rumour-mongering.
12. To refrain from personal attacks against any other Member of the Pro
League, or against the Pro League itself.
13. To honour the special trust conferred upon us by our selection as Judges,
and to adhere to the standards of personal conduct expected of us.
14. To cooperate with the Athletes, Judges and Officials in the development of
high standards, both moral and physical, for the sport of bodybuilding,
fitness and figure and in the progressive furtherance of the objects of the
Pro League.
15. To oppose the use of banned substances and methods.
16. To refrain from any conduct that may be considered prejudicial.
17. To conduct ourselves at all times in a manner that reflects positively upon
the image of the sport of bodybuilding, fitness and figure, and the Pro
League.

Blockhead,

Can you get me the number to the IFBB?

I will call and call until I get a real answer.  I want to see what excuses they have.

Do you have a Navy Blazer???

The official uniform for all male judges at Pro League competitions is as follows: Navy blue blazer with Pro League crest on left breast [pocket], grey dress pants with black belt, white or light blue dress shirt, Pro League tie, black socks and black dress shoes.

No, because if they did Ronnie Coleman, King Kamali, Vic Martinez, the guy who is famous because he married Bev Francis, would all have been suspended according to their rules.  They only suspend independent contractors who try and earn money from using their physiques  ::)

I heard that Derek Anthony asked to become a NPC judge... He said he would like to hold a special "prejudging" in his "Dungeon" (aka his trailer) for all the male competitors he fancies, and will assign his scores based on that...

When asked if he wanted to judge female contestants as well, Derek spat out his "sponsor's" cock, laughed out loud saying "Forget bout that tuna, just gimme some sausage"...

True story...

I would sadly have to disqualify all of them for Violations:
 Update #1]
IFBB President Ben Weider took the first step in a renewed fight against doping by officially signing the WADA Code Acceptance Form on November 12, 2003. In so doing, the IFBB became a Signatory to the WADA Code.

[Update #2]
From April 2004 to January 2005, the IFBB worked closely with WADA in order to conform the IFBB Anti-Doping Program to the provisions of the WADA Code. On January 26, 2005, WADA stated in part, " ... the rules as presented to us implement the Code as such for your amateur division ..." Thus, the next step in the process of full implementation of the WADA Code is complete.

[Update #3]
On November 27, 2005, at its annual general meeting in Shanghai, China, the IFBB Executive Council and IFBB International Congress amended the IFBB Constitution by inserting a new Article 22 on Doping:

22.1 Position Statement: The practice of sport involves physical health and fitness, dedication to training, and proper nutrition. Doping, which includes the use of Prohibited Substances and Prohibited Methods to artificially enhance performance, is unethical, contrary to the concept of fair play, undermines the values of sport, and can endanger the health of the athletes. The practice of doping is forbidden within the IFBB.

22.2 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code: The IFBB officially recognizes the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) as the international authority in anti-doping matters. The IFBB is an official Signatory to the WADA Code and, by means of the IFBB Anti-Doping Rules, conforms to the provisions of the WADA Code.

22.3 Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS): The IFBB officially recognizes the authority of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Further, at this same meeting, the IFB Executive Council and IFBB International Congress adopted new IFBB Anti-Doping Rules and agreed to implement a new In- and Out-of-Competition doping control program as follows:

PROPOSITION #3 (Adopted)
Be it resolved that, in keeping with the decision made by the IFBB Executive Council on November 6, 2003, and by the IFBB Congress on November 9, 2003, in Mumbai, India; said decision which stated:

”Be it resolved that the IFBB shall take steps to adopt the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code. Further, once the WADA Code is formally adopted, the IFBB shall take whatever measures are necessary to ensure that its anti-doping program is in full compliance with the Code.”

the IFBB adopt the new IFBB Anti-Doping Rules, Version 1.0, and further, that said rules shall have force and effect as of January 1, 2006. *these Anti-Doping Rules are based on the WADA “Models of Best Practice” and are intended to replace the current IFBB Anti-Doping Program.

PROPOSITION #4 (Adopted)
Be it resolved that In-Competition testing be carried out as follows:

1. RANDOM:
A number of athletes selected at random during the Competition e.g. at Weigh-in.
2. WEIGHTED:
A number of athletes selected at random from among the Top Finalists e.g. at the Finals.

*Note: The IFBB reserves the right to conduct Target Testing

PROPOSITION #5 (Adopted)

Be in resolved that Out-of-Competition testing be carried out in 2007 from a Registered Athlete Testing Pool, said Pool which shall be established in 2006 from among the Top Finalists at all IFBB World Championships.

[Update #4]
On April 1, 2006, IFBB Anti-Doping Directive 2006-001 takes effect; the directive provides comprehensive guidelines on Result Management, Hearings and Appeals.
