Why don't PC Games use a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard?

Given that high end gaming rigs can have absolute state of the art GPU/CPU/RAM which can be better than nearly all game console's except for maybe the PS3 why don't they use joysticks instead of an awkward mouse and keyboard?

I've played a little of both and the PC games are a pain in the ass compared to modern controllers.  Are they're third party controllers that could be used with PC games that are as good as controllers use with XBOX 360, PS3 or Wii?

It's 100x easier to use a keyboard and mouse for any game. Controllers blow for anything but fighting games. Any shooting type game is 100x easier on the computer.

If you had ever played a shooter with a mouse and a Keyboard you would know that it beats the Controller by miles, you are so much faster and more accurate with a mouse... especially the mouse we have ATM who have insane accurate rates. Nobody with an Controller would be able to match speed and acuiracht against somebody with a mouse and keyboard... think about it, you make one flick with the mouse.. with an controller you need press the stick to target something.

-  Sports games  better with game controllers

-  Role Playing Game (RPG) doesn't matter which unless it's a FPS style.

They did xBox had one a long time ago but it never cought on since Microsoft was fully aware that you cannot balance somebody playing with a Controller agains somebody with a mouse and a keyboard.
I work a long time for the Games industry so I have inside knowlage...especially when it comes down to Consoles (not that I play them I'm a PC man) but I was a manager for the Technical Requirement Group for quit a while

It's who they are marketing to.  Console games are marketed to people who have been using controllers all their lives.

Because it's easier to lug a 4 ounce controller around instead of a bulky ass keyboard and mouse? I don't know many people who can play with a keyboard and mouse in a chair without a desk either.

Yes, I took that into account that's why I said "modified keyboard and mouse". I'm not talking about a giant deskset but a modified version designed exclusively for gamers.
