How many reps with 225 equate to a 500 bench????????????
« on: February 01, 2007, 04:36:33 PM »
i'm getting sick and tired of seeing these piss ant high school and college players saying the follwing, "well, i did 37 reps with 225 so that means i could do 500 for a single" hahahaha, yeah right, Ronnie Coleman does 79 reps with 225 and he barely got 4 reps on his own with 500 on his video, i'm sick of these clowns on ESPN and the NFL network pumping these players up to be more than they are.

One doesnt equate the other by any means...the payload get much heavier, very quickly the higher you get to 500. I remember being able to get 485 like it was nothing, but took me the longest time to get to 500.
You would think a lousy 15 lbs. isnt much...but when you're already pushing the envelope...it might as well be 100 lbs.

There is a reason records get beat by 1/4 lb. increments, etc....

Good point.

How often do they go up and do few heavy reps?

I doubt very much that Scott Mendelson would get much more than 70-80 reps with 225 lbs, yet he's benchpressed 700+ lbs RAW.

Mendy equalling Coleman on 225 lbs isn't a done deal either IMO.

A good analogy is it takes like 400 hp to propel a car 150 mph. To get the same car to 170 mph takes 800 hp.

Give or take,I read an article about this a long time ago so I'm not 100% on the data

Bob, you should have contacted Mr. Intenseone for some training tips...he was benching 535 raw at a body weight of 181 pounds. I know this is true because I read it on getbig.

You're exactly right (Well, not exactly... You really don't need 800hp)

However, stereo wattage would be perfect. To get twice the amount of sound (loudness only) from a 500 Watt Stereo, you would need a 5000 Watt stereo, not a 1000 watt stereo.. it is more along the lines of a factor of 10.

I've done 315 for 2 reps. So that would mean if I was juiced like Chikyboy I would be doing 600 pound free weight bench presses. That is more then Levrone or any other bodybuilder.

i can't imagine how many reps with 225 would translate to a 500 bench. i've gotten 21 with 225 and 365 is about the highest i can get. i'd say 40 would be a fair estimate, but that's really dependent on how good your endurance is in general. off the top of my head, a guy on a PL board with a bench in the 400-500 range hits around 37 reps with 225.
