Author Topic: Why can't the Arnold have more prize money than the Olympia? (Read 2557 times)

I remember reading that Arnold had said it was stipulated the Arnold classic couldn't give more prize money out, and that is the reason why he was giving a Hummer and a Rolex to the winner. If it wasn't for this "rule", the 1st place prize purse would be significantly higher (my guess, around 250k-500K)

well he has the money and the sponsers...so no reason why he wouldn't give the extra money

guess the IFBB doesn't want their competitors to get "greedy"

They want the Olympia to be the premier show and if they are offering more money that would entice more of the top names to do the Arnold and blow off the Olympia or worse show-up looking like garbage

Good thread Parker.

It would be in the best interest of the Pro Bodybuilder's to see the Arnold Classic pay out as much as possible.

Yet I never see any "Pro's" bring up the issue about Arnold/Lorimer allowed to pay the prize money of their choice.

It used to be Wayne DeMilia making sure that the ASC wasn't paying more than the O. Who's doing the dirty job these days, I don't know.

I think more money should go to the lower placings. This was said by someone else before, but spreading the money a bit more down the line can be a good thing. I'm not sure how far it goes down now.

Ditto. Competing in top shows and coming away with $2000 is insulting.

Exactly, raisng the prize money across the board is the way to go.

If the first place Prize money for the Arnold Classic was 500K,
Imagine what the last place finisher would have. More than enough to cover the money spent on drugs and food.

and it would create more competition among the competitors and force more to come in shape. There would be no more Kamalis or Craig Titus'

I didn't know it was Wayne. The Pros need to bring up this issue, seeing how the line up is better than the Olympia line up, and they consistently bring their A game when it comes to conditioning at the Arnold

He was going to if i remember, as long as the arnold is ifbb sanctioned he has to abide by their rules, he could easily break away into a new organization, but the fucking weiders would then come down on any ifbb pros who compete there. I can't for the life of my understand why the ifbb is still number one, its the worst thing bodybuilding has going for it, next to all the gay contests.

You're absolutely right, but as I said, I think Arnold has a lot of respect for Joe and how the Weiders have supported him back in the glory days.

Weird. Wayne got the blame all the years for keeping the pay below the O? I didn't know that.

Then he's gone, and they still can't bump up the money?

Perhaps the blame was sitting on the wrong person all that time. And perhaps the people placing the blame all that time should be taking a hard look at where the fingers should have been pointed all along?

Maybe the Arnold should changed to the Mr. Olympia. Just a name changed. And held at the same time the Arnold is. That way, it will be the biggest show that the rookies can prapre for, and will separate those who can, and the ones who can't. I will weed out those who have been giving pro cards and those who have earned them.

And the money will be better

It wasn't Wayne who restricted the raise of prize money for the Arnold. It was Weider. The Olympia is the (suppose to be) the best show and the ultimate. What makes it that isn't only the title but the money. Weiders name is all over the Olympia. No way in hell would they let another IFBB show give away more money than their baby. NO WAY. Wayne had nothing to do with it. You guys give Wayne to much credit for shit he had nothing to do with. The IFBB is company owned and run by the Weiders. its weird that the competitos tend to peak for the Arnold (Flex for example), but many play the size game for the Olympia. The winner Arnold seems to imbue most of the qaulities that one wants for an "ideal" bodybuilder, ie, size, shape, and conditioning.

Considering the Olympia is suppose to be the pinnacle of BB, the Arnold blows it away in terms of everything. I think winning the Arnold is a bigger deal than the Olympia. The whole show and weekend is better.
