Parachuting...

I'm probably asking in the wrong place, but has anyone hear ever done a parachute jump?

I've just finished reading a book about a chap who was trying to break the record for jumping from the edge of outer space and have been inspired to give parachuting a go. My girlfriend has offered to pay for a jump for my birthday and I am looking for some advice.

The centres seem to offer either static line jumps or tandem free-fall; has anyone done either and which would they recommend?

i have quite a few tandems under my belt

i go once every summer..
dont go with static line..for you wont get any free fall..

go with tandem..you dont need to sit around and take a class for that..you just go...

however how much do you weigh?  most place wont tandem if you weigh more than 220 tops..call the jump center and ask...

some states you NEED so many tandems before you r allowed a solo..some states dont have that rule..

if you go solo you need to sit thru a 8 hour class..i never go solo..i have very bad eyes..tandem is just fine by me..

n o..try and pick a day when its relatively calm..for then you can talk your jumpmaster into going higher..highest i've been ws 16,000..

they usually jump from 12..

also BE THERE EARLY....if you get even 3 people in line in front of you..that means u r waiting 5 hours...

get there at the butt crack of dawn...usually on the first jump the jumpmaster will be in a good mood..chitchat with him...make friends..and convince him to go higher..


PS flipping out backwards is wayy more fun than going headfirst

I'm 12 and half stone...thats around 175lbs. So no worries there. The jumpcentres over here say 14 stone/200lbs is the limit for static, don't know about tandem.

The sites I've been looking at say if you do 10 statics you qualify to do freefall by yourself. But the tandem seems less worrying to me for a first jump.

if you r anywhere close to Ocean City Maryland..go there.. (OC airport)..or ANY beach community whre they do skydiving..
