Lou's dad probably had such control over Lou that he only had to pay 12 dollars for a pic... :-*

I'm sure Lou's dad realised that steroids were part of the game and he definitely would have been aware of it and even helped with the process. Matt probably had a "He's gotta do, what he's gotta do" attitude, which is most likely the attitude most loved ones of bodybuilders have.

A control freak doesn't mean a health freak. His dad probably wanted him to be the best he could be and the only forseeable way was and is to take steroids.

Steroids weren't illegal then, plus his dad wasn't involved with his day-to-day training so he probably didn't know any details and looked the other way.

According to the Pumping Iron DVD, Matty Ferrigno really wasn't all that interested in bodybuilding, until George Butler asked him to be in the film. Then, the elder Ferrigno does a complete 180, going from not caring about bodybuilding to being more obsessed with Lou's beating Arnold than Lou himself.

Matty was a cop back in the day, cops were as crooked as the criminals, Matty made lou what he was ....with full knowledge of everything he took. ... besides Lou had a 2nd grade reading level when he turned 30, how is the dumbass gonna know what to take ?

roids were legal back then. nothing criminal at all.

from what i've heard taking roids for bbing back then was on about the same level morally and typically as taking creatine today.

Here Dan Lurie talks about Lou's roid use, his twisted father Matty, and how Lou sued Lurie, his own brother, and anyone else
he thought he could get something off.

Lou has stated, his dad never trained him... never... it was the movie.

Rumor has it Lou is an ass anyway... If he is... fuck him.... but since I don't know him.

If he's not... I apologize in advance for saying "Fuck You".

Yeah, apparently the dad/son training montage was all for the movie.

No way to know what his dad was like from those articles. First of all, his dad training Lou was very likely a suggestion from the producers of the movie, just as they asked that their training footage come from R&J Gym in Brooklyn when in fact Lou was training in Venice. Staged for dramatic effect. His real trainer might've been the guy handing him the barbell during that strip set. It made a difference; Matty's persona helped the movie, which no one acknowledges. Lou himself was too quiet and unsure of himself at that age to make an interesting opponent by himself.

As far as steroids, it's obvious that Lou had numerous BB guys around him-Lurie, his trainer (not his dad), etc. so it could have come from anywhere without his dad knowing the specifics.

lous father had nothing to do with his training, it was all for the movie. Lous father was a mean man and would constantly down talk lou as a child.

Bet he didn't sue his own kid though... same can't be said about his son, or so I hear.

Based on what evidence?

I've got tape of Lou on Entertainment Tonight where he said that he taped a segment for some sports show in the 70's and they had to pull it because Lou kept stumbling his words. Lou then said that his father called him a misfit and it should be him on TV and not Lou. I think Matt was definitely an arsehole and would have down talked Lou as a child
