Anorexic Grandma?
« on: February 08, 2007, 10:31:02 AM »
There is a darling lady at my gym who is about 75 years old who is 4'11" and weighs 101 pounds and wears a size 3.  She signed up for some weight loss contest they have going there and wants to get down to 87 pounds!

She looks just fine now...in fact she could use a little more weight!  Why would they even let her sign up :(

I'm pretty sure it's free.

I told her if she lost all that weight and then got sick, she's dead.  Do you think that was too harsh? :-[

Actually, I hate to say it, but she'd probably do okay at about 90.  4'11" at her age, she's probably lost all of her muscle mass so I can see her weighing under 100... she probably looks like a bird, though.  Oh well, they say the key to living long is having goals.   :-\

I wonder who has more fun... the skinny, bird ladies or the big, huge ones who wear massive Jackie O sunglasses (from 1975),  red and gold sequin-appliqued caftans, and whoop it up twice a year with the girls in Boca!!!

caloric restriction has  in some instances been shown to extend life span...

True, it just seems a little odd to suddenly decide to lose weight at 75... lol, at least she's probably doing it for herself, and not some man. However, wouldn't the shock of a radical change to your body at that age also be detrimental, like to your heart for instance?

the shock versus lower free radical damage due to caloric restriction

someone should do a study!  :D
