Obama Battles Aussie PM John Howard - Iraq Involvement
« on: February 11, 2007, 02:22:11 PM »
Good to see our illustrious leader John Howard getting into the debate over US foreign policy (and who said we Aussies aren't allowed to?). Barack would be well advised to find an easier opponent to debate this with - Howard is the most competent conservative politician of our time (just ask Steve Irwin  ;)).

John Howard on Barack Obama:

I think that will just encourage those who want to completely destabilise and destroy Iraq, and create chaos and a victory for the terrorists to hang on and hope for an Obama victory.. If I were running al-Qaeda in Iraq, I would put a circle around March 2008 and be praying as many times as possible for a victory not only for Obama but also for the Democrats.

Barack Obama on John Howard:

I would also note that we have close to 140,000 troops in Iraq, and my understanding is Mr Howard has deployed 1400, so if he is ... to fight the good fight in Iraq, I would suggest that he calls up another 20,000 Australians and sends them to Iraq.

Very interesting.  On a side note, I don't think Obama is too far off the mark to request the Australians send more troops, I wish we would.

HA!

Did he?  What does that prove, exactly?  Other than the Howard family creates excellent political minds?

Indeed, but should a Republican (or anyone for that matter) find that humorous?

John Howard should mind his own friggen business.. Unless he is willing to commit some 100 thousand his opinion on bringing back the (US) troops is insignificant.

Mind his own business?  It's not his business that Obama wants to drag the men that his troops are fighting along side home?

Get a clue, Australia's involvement in Iraq is relatively small, but we have put our brave men where others wouldn't.

Bruce, you get a clue.. His "input" should be limited to the resources he has put in, nothing more.

Oh brother, maybe the media should cut the proportion of his quote down to the proportionate size of his country's input.  That would be logical.

Will you hold detractors of the Bush Administration to the same lofty standards?

It is funny.  If my brother slips on a banana peel, it's still hilarious.

The guy is a big Bush ally, his kid is a big Bush supporter.

He's attacking a guy who is anti-Bush policy, and really doing nothing but legitimizing obama.

Also, he's sticking his nose into the affairs of other nations.  As a leader, that's usually taboo.

it's funny.

So you chastise Howard for criticising Obama's decision to pull troops (guess what this means for the Aussie troops, by the way), and allow Obama to interfere in Australia's 'affairs'?  Guess who is the bigger brother here.

Obama's idea is being exposed for what it is - a disaster for America and the West.

He won't win the election based on this doctrine.
