I read in his encyclopedia that he benched 500.

I read in the recent musclemag that he benched 440.

Either way he trained his chest with impecable form and volume plus enthusiasm that not one of the many bodybuilders today dare to replicate.

Training wise maybe. Strengthwise yes. Arnold retired at an earlier age then Ronnie even started bodybuilding.

425-440 was probably his heaviest ever 1RM attempts from what i can gather

In his bodybuilding encyclopedia, it says he benched 405 for 8 I think. That would put his 1 rep max in the low 500's, which is believeable. His pecs, along with biceps were his best bodyparts.

i just bought last week the Muscle Mag special edition with like half of the magazine dedicated to Ahhhnold, and if i remember correctly he says exactly this, that his best bench was around 440 or 460 (i can look on the magazine and tell the right number later), and i think he even mentioned that he almost never did singles or 1rp max.
giving the fact this is not a small number and that he was the king of the 'go after the pump!!' i think its a great bench

It is 440 but I wouldn't doubt him if it turned out to be 500. Either way he was the best and strongest bodybuilder at the time.

Him being a great deadlifter proves nothing about his benchpress.

In fact, it only suggests he's a weak benchpresser, since long limbs are helpful in the deadlift, but hurts the benchpress.

With the size and thickness of his chest (at his peak) I don't doubt it.. .the man has the best chest bodybuilding has ever seen, hands down.
