Seriously, logically... isn't he making the right choice based on US Behaviour?  I mean, haven't we made it crystal clear that we'll talk to you in honest actual negotiations if you have a nuke, but anyone less is a dog to be ordered around?  That's the message I see... It may not be the right message but it's loud and clear...

Of course, what our compliant corporate media neglect to point out is that "Maddy" - whether sincere zealot or cynical panderer - has no more power to attack Israel than Ahmad the hashish peddler at the Tuesday bazaar. The Iranian government isn't set up that way.

Control of the Iranian armed forces belongs to a man named Ali Khamenei - whose post can be referred to as "Supreme Leader" or "Leader of the Revolution". He is a political moderate who was in the vanguard of advocating stem cell research, has said that human rights are a fundamental principle of Islamic teachings, and condemned the 9/11 attacks.

Not nearly as convenient a bogeyman, as you can see.
