Contemporary award shows are hardly accurate barometers of quality.  They're more about what which labels, producers, and sponsors are willing to spend money where, and what the mass moronic public is willing to swallow at any given point in time.

A better yardstick for measuring the quality of a band's music is what people are saying about them a couple of decades down the line.  In the case of RATM, I really doubt people will be saying much of anything at all.
