Night time recommendation
« on: February 23, 2007, 06:22:21 PM »
Read in a recent magazine that instead of taking Flax with your shake, take it 10-15 mins before your nightime shake, actually will slow down absorbtion even more and will also increase your time of going to the bathroom at night.

Yes, because fibers absorb water.

Drinking fibers before going to bed is absolutely pointless in my opinion, because fibers will cause your intestines to work heavily, what you would not want during the night.

It's better to get something easily ingestible before going to bed like casein with a LITTLE fat, but no fibers.

All the nighttime eating is way overrated, nobody get thin overnight if he doesn't eat slow protein before bed.

last meal before bed, in my opinion, is actually the most simple: Protein shake using non fat milk, and sometimes a fruit (normaly an apple).

I would not recommend having fructose before bed. Also, the protein shake is questionable. If it's whey protein, you will have an insulin spike before bed, which isn't good for sleep quality and the whey will be gone in no time.
Casein is fine though.

Fructose is directly stored in the liver as glykogen or stored as fat. Okay for first meal or PWO, but NEVER before bed.

I am always amazed by people eating right before bed. Assuming that you eat relatively good all day why would your body suddenly go into starvation mode? I always thought that while sleeping the body would naturally slow down and consume minimally.
Here comes the money shot

It's a great idea when trying to bulk but if you're maintaining or trying to lose I'd just let that meal fall in with the other 5,6, 7 or 8 a day, whether that's 15 min. before or 1 1/2 hrs before.

I don't think eating carbs too close to bed is all that great of an idea.  Carbs create and insulin response, in the presence of insulin GH production is inhibited, and during sleep is a prime time for GH release so why slow that down by ingesting carbs too close to sleeping.
