No one has ever been able to transmute personal tradegy into comedy at Pryor's level.

Me too. I know Eddie got a lot of inspiration etc from Pryor but I prefer Eddie. Especially Delirious and Raw. I also like Chris Rock who kept the black comedian tradition going.

He is great, but a little unstable and although his show was great, he never had that one great standup to cement him as an all time great, like Pryor, Eddie and Rock.

Chapelle is very insightful but had writers helping him with the show.

Listen to "Is it something I said" or one of Pryor's first albums and you'll see what I mean. He was really a genious. Sadly, people use TV and movie stuff to judge comedians these days. The medium is too limited, IMO. "That black's Crazy" is another great album.
