Suing Websites and Magazines for LIBEL.
« on: February 27, 2007, 01:07:23 PM »
In 1999, Schwarzenegger sued Dr. Willi Heepe, a German doctor who publicly predicted an early death for the bodybuilder, based on a link between steroid use and later heart problems. Because the doctor had never examined him personally, Schwarzenegger collected a DM 20,000 ($12,000 USD) libel judgment against him in a German court. In 1999 Schwarzenegger also sued and settled with The Globe, a U.S. tabloid which had made similar predictions about the bodybuilder's future health. As late as 1996, a year before open heart surgery to replace an aortic valve, Schwarzenegger publicly defended his use of anabolic steroids during his bodybuilding career.[6]

Looks like the doctor hit a nerve.  :)

I think I see your point.

Arnold has an income in the millions that could be adversely affected by this kind of publicity.

What could Kamali lose? His free MuscleTech supplements?  ::)

the biggest problem I have with this situation is the hypocricy of Romano's attack against Adonis---since Romano is such proponent of steriod use---------it confunds me why he would try to out someone for using them on such a public place as an internet forum(s) (which people not only in the fitness industry read but also people in law enforcement)

It seems like he would want to be bigger than that and not go tit for tat and not try to get someone in trouble or slander on an issue he doesnt agree with in the beginning (the federal prosecution of steroid users)--i have defintly lost some respect for him because of this

but ah well----------------its all just hype anyway

Nothing ever happened to it though.

well the thing is, we're ALL guilty of "libel" if this kind of tenuous issue is considered as such. if we sifted through the boards and pulled out every post that was a lie or an unfounded insult on someone we'd all be in court against each other for the rest of our lives.

I agree.

But it is a little different when there is an EDITOR IN CHIEF of a major magazine spouting the lies.

That is dangerous journalism and is a very, very slippery slope.

he can spout all the lies he wants, though. unless you can prove it caused you any kind of tangible harm or loss of revenue then you're basically asking the courts to intervene simply based on principle. now, if you had a personal training business and he said that, then your business cut in half the next month you'd have a solid case.

that's provided these are all lies, of course. as neither side has done much beyond "well this guy says this" i'm not committing one way or the other.

There will be no lawsuit.

There will be no deadlift video.

There will be no T.A. vs D.A. fight.

Thanks for coming out.
