I don't think so.  I think he realized he could have a greater impact if he brought all that he did to the west.  China should be proud.

He did not give a shit... He was happy to teach his martial arts to others... His broken back was because he was teaching to those outside of China... people didn't like it... didn't stop him.

Why would he feel he'd betrayed his heritage? Teaching the fighting styles he'd mastered to foreigners?
