Bench Shirts
« on: March 04, 2007, 10:44:42 AM »
This is conjustion whith that other thread
170 man bnches 700
in the vid he benches 400+ without a shirt i respect that lift..
but i really dont get the whole bench shirt thing
its like saying
i can run at 10000 miles per hr......

but dude you have a rocket strapped to your back
..
which doesnt means you can actually run 10000 miles and hr..
his 400+ lift is a good lift why just not stick with that? ???
choice is an illusion

piss poor analogy. imagine running a 100 yard dash in those really nice shoes with the spring heel and the cushioning and whatnot versus doing it barefoot. or the olympic swimmers who have the greased up suits that cut down on their times.

once again, you don't understand how a shirt works. just because he can bench 400 raw and can bench near 700 in a shirt doesn't mean EVERYONE with a 400 raw bench can bench near 700 in a shirt. i have a 365 raw press and 455 is the most i've ever gotten in a shirt. by your logic i should be doing almost 600.

if u cant bech what you have benched .. in a shirt then you really didnt bnch it yourself... the shirt helped you do it..
why not just bench a normal bench... and be satisfied with what you can do yourself....?

why don't we have everyone run marathons and 100 yard dashes in bare feet? why do baseball players get to wear gloves? why are athletes allowed to use chalk?

so you are saying... that running in track shoes create the same advantage as a bench shirt?
cmon magoo...
that 170 who benched 700 in a shirt could not even lift 700 from the ground... much less to benching it...
his supposed un shirted press is.. 400.. and with a shirt its 700? and you compare a bench shhirt to track shoes?
so what do track shoes shave off a running time.. 5 seconds...
..
choice is an illusion

five seconds can be a lot of time in a dash. and those shoes aren't just protection any more. they're made to shave time off, you can't deny that.

shirted benching and raw benching are two different sports, and anyone who calls their shirt max "how much they bench" is an idiot, but people who act like it's cheating are just plain wrong.

noway, they dont do that much,

you are right about the lockout,

the i see it, doing a shirted bench is like doing a partial rep.

... i have never ever said... that shirted benches are cheat benches...

i am really questioning the logic?
and if you notice the thread said 170 guy benched 700...
not 170 guy benches 400.. so yes people do try to pass off these shirted lifts as real
.. but still my question is what is the point of benching in a shirt....

funny thing is john inzer designed shirts to protect from injuries. mad that they are now apparatus helpoing lift weight. its basically lockout strength plus a wee bit of chest strength.

look at the training around shirted lifters. all lockouts, bands, boards and chains.

it's just the nature of the sport now. if you want to compete geared, compete geared. personally, i much prefer lifting raw. geared lifting hurts like hell, requires way too much assistance (three spotters on your bench and squat, for example) and the injury potential is monumental.

you are right about the lockout,

100% right. it is, to an extent. and that's why you have to have MASSIVELY strong triceps if you want a big shirted bench. like i said, i raw bench around 365. off of a 3-board i can handle 405 for a set of 3. a friend of mine can get around 330 but off of boards he has a hard time with 315. not a lot of lockout strength on him, he's the type who gets the bar up most of the way then struggles to finish it, i'm the other way around.
